Window Treatment Ideas

by Ben Mester

In my search for interior design ideas for remodeling a home, I've come across some really neat ideas in the realm of window treatments and designs and concepts for window spaces. There's a few reasons why I really like window treatments as a way to enhance the color of interior spaces, and I think that every homeowner wishing to set their interior space apart from the rest should consider spending some time thinking about window treatment and valance ideas. A window treatment and window valance, along with a nicely colored painted wall can really make a room come alive.

Although I haven't ever gotten into knitting or sewing of any kind, I've always been intrigued by the notion of patterns. Being a lover of architecture and building, I can appreciate the skill and precision that goes into following a complex pattern. The cool thing about building a window treatment from scratch is that you can configure it to fit any size, shape and style. By utilizing a pattern, or by simply designing your own pattern, you'll have complete freedom to really enhance your interior space to the dimensions and colors that already exist.

Another great thing about designing your own window treatment is that you can make them out of different colors of fabric. Window treatments seem to follow fairly closely with the standard 2/3 1/3 rule, where two thirds of the treatment is made from the main color, and one third of the treatment is made from the accentuating color. Both examples to the right each have a main color and an accentuating color which sharpens the room an extra touch of vibrance. If you're looking for great window treatment ideas, that's the best and simplest tip I can give you. Try creating a model where two thirds or so of the window treatment is your main color, and one third or so of the the window treatment is a more striking accentuating color. I think you'll be happily surprised at what you can come up with once you unlock your creative mind.

I've recently entered the new world of looking to buy a fixer-uper condo. Once I seriously began to consider the idea, my mind began to overflow with the possibilities of what could be done to enhance a personal space. No one would argue that properly accentuated natural light does anything but add beauty to an interior space. On the other hand, sometimes the absence of light can be accentuated more beautifully that an abundance of light. Just like some window treatments really beautifully accentuate and enhance warm, natural light, other window treatments really take advantage of nighttime absence of light, using strong deep colors like reds and browns. In my opinion, nothing enhances an interior space better than the right accentuation of light and windows. This is a cheap way to not only beautify a home, but to increase the value of it as well.

In today's housing market where so many homes stay up for sale for months upon months before being sold, anything a homeowner can do to give their home a special splash of uniqueness and color can really help a lot. Nothing gives an interior space a beautiful look than a nice accentuation of lights and colors.
