Rollers: Features and Manufacturing

by Chetan Aegis

The roller is a simple concept, yet so effective in reducing friction in a wide range of machinery. A dramatic development of various forms of rolling-element bearings in the twentieth century is well known. Long before there was a large industrial demand for such devices and certainly long before there were adequate machine tools for their effective manufacture in large quantities. The availability of roller bearings has a tremendous impact on machine design. Further research and development on these bearings still remains a big challenge and much remains to be explored in articulating the operational efficiencies of bearings which have served us for ages and will keep doing so in the future too.

Our Role:

Roller bearing is responsible for all moving parts which we use in daily routine. The main function of these bearings is to provide smooth acceleration by reducing the friction. Our bearing industry continues to play a key role in the roller manufactures. We manufacture bearings which are highly skilled in designs, which enables machinery to move at extremely high speed with much ease and carry remarkable loads with efficiency. Our bearings offer high precision or high quality, reliability and durability, as well as the ability to rotate at high speeds with minimal noise and vibration.

Such bearings can be used in any applications like automobiles, quiet running ceiling fans, accurate microscopes, effective dental drills, airplanes, computers, construction equipment, refrigerators etc. So basically if something twists, rotates or moves, it probably has a bearing in it.

Types and Application

We provide distinct types of bearings, each has particular characteristics which are suited to specific applications. There are four common types of bearings what we provide:

" Cylindrical Roller Bearing

Cylindrical roller bearings are well acquainted and commonly used roller bearing. It has a simple design like small metal bearings trapped between inner and outer metal rings which gives rotation ability to either of the ring even if the other is held fixed. To avoid the friction between inner and outer rings with metal bearings a lubricating substance such as Grease is used. The shape of these bearings is cylindrical like a form of a sphere.

It has a great capacity under radial loads. It gives accurate guiding of the rollers.

Applications: Transmissions, differentials, rear axle shafts

" Needle Roller Bearing

The needle roller bearing is an alteration of the cylindrical roller bearing. It is different from cylindrical in terms of roller design capacity. The diametesr of these rollers is thinner, so more and more rollers can be used per bearing. In this type of bearing essentially one roller pushes against the other keeping everything in place

The main advantage of using such roller is that it has great capability under radial loads. Due to its high capacity under radial load it can be used for various applications as given below.

Applications: Transmissions, alternators, steering gears.

" Pins: The pin type cage has two rings one at each end of the rollers. Cage pins pass centrally through the holes of each roller and are threaded into one cage ring and welded into the other. Pin bearing is one of the oldest types of bearings. It always allows rotation along only one single axis, and within the bearing creates a great deal of friction and stress.

Pin type is popular for handling larger loads.

Applications: Heavy industries such as automotive, aviation, aerospace, power transmission.
