How Do You Know If Your New Perfume is Authentic?

Does that smell right to you?

by Sam Qam

Like many, you may have a penchant for nice perfume but not for the lavish prices some of the big shops like to charge. This may have caused you to stray

from the high street and off to a market stall or car boot sale offering the same perfume at a much lower price. Now that you have your new designer

fragrance you could be forgiven for having second thoughts. Is this a genuine bottle of designer aftershave or have you been ripped off? To find out,

there are a number of things you can do see if you have a bargain or a not.

Packaging

When you have bought perfume from a big shop in the past, do you remember how the cellophane fit nice and snug around the box? If your cellophane looks

more like Clingfilm and hangs loose, you could be in trouble. Next, look at the box itself. Get a picture of how the box should look up online and sit

your box next to the screen. Do all the images and designs match up? A counterfeit box would probably be a lot less shiny and have less well defined

lines.

Bottle

If you have got as far as opening the box you will be able to inspect the bottle. Feel the weight of it. Is it glass? Most perfume bottles are made of

reinforced glass and not plastic so if your bottle feels cheap, it probably is. Seems where the plastic was stuck together is also a dead give-away.

Also, looking at a picture of a genuine bottle will tell you if it is the exact shape.

Smell

If you are still not sure, get down to your local perfume shop and have a good sniff of what the real stuff smells like. Take one of those paper sticks

and bring it home with you. Now compare the smell of your men's fragrance with that of the genuine article. This should tell you once and for all if your

Armani perfume is real.

If you bought your perfume from a shop or an online perfume store and you do find out that your perfume is a fake, you should contact your local citizens

advice office or trading standards authority to help you get your money back. If you bought it from a market or from a street corner, there is less

chance of you getting any money back.
