Tips To Brew Coffee At Home

by Deborah A. Phillips

The world's most popular drink is coffee, so you can find people preparing to brew coffee in homes around the globe. Different countries and cultures often have distinct ways of brewing coffee depending on the living conditions in that area or the taste preference of the average coffee drinker. Although they look about the same and taste quite similar, there are some noticeable differences between the different coffee beans grown around the world. And even tiny details such as the style of coffee roasting and the way it is ground can affect the taste and brewing style. What brewing method will you opt to use at home and how will it affect the taste of your morning coffee?

In the United States and a lot of other areas in the world, the drip coffee maker is by far the most popular device used to brew coffee. Drip coffee makers are aptly named because they drip hot water through the coffee grounds and then filter out the grounds as the brewed beverages falls down into the coffee pot. Since they are highly common, they are made in many different styles and sizes; a small drip machine can prepare just 2 or 4 cups in one cycle while larger ones make gigantic 10 or 12 cup pots.

Besides the popular drip coffee makers, there are also many people who choose to use a percolator to brew coffee. A percolator is either plugged in or placed on the stove to boil the water that is then forced up through the grounds once it begins to heat and boil. These coffee makers are often linked with the outdoors and camping since they can be used over an open fire. But that does not mean that you cannot brew with a percolator at home; some coffee fanatics believe that a percolated cup of joe is richer and more flavorful than a drip cup.

French presses, espresso machines, and other devices can also be used to make a cup of coffee. To use a French press, you place the coffee grounds in the pot, then add boiling water and allow the mix to brew for a few minutes; once it is ready, you push the piston down to remove the grounds.

With such a large number of options, it may be hard for you to decide how you will brew coffee at home. The ideal method to choose is to make coffee using several different methods and then decide which cup has the most flavorful brew.
