Feeding your Golden by Combination Approach
While it is perfectly okay to give your Golden Retriever commercial food, using the combination approach is still the ideal way of feeding your canine fellow. The combination approach is when you feed your dog with both commercial and fresh human food. Compared to commercial food, fresh human food contains higher amounts of vitamins and nutrients necessary for your dog’s health. As a matter of fact, veterinarians recommend feeding your Golden fresh food as long as you do so in the right proportions. Golden Retrievers crave fresh food too. They are attracted to its good smell, which makes them want to eat it.
While many commercial foods boast of rich amounts of vitamins and nutrients for your Golden Retriever, it can still not topple what fresh food can provide. For instance, fish, chicken and other meat sources have more protein and minerals than any type of commercially sold dog food. These are excellent to keep your dog smart, strong and healthy.
All dogs have the innate ability to stay healthy. But still, you need to give them the proper nutrition to make sure that they stay that way. Every dog is an individual – it has individual tastes and preferences, which means that you cannot just let them eat the same type of food over and over again. Golden Retrievers love a variety of human food. One day they may want to eat a particular type of food, then the next day they wont. That is why it is important to put variety into your feeding plan and cook up something different for your Golden every so often.
Instead of letting your Golden chow down on human food in large proportions, it would be best to just give him a little bit of everything. This way, your dog doesn’t miss out on food groups that may be essential to his diet. Always incorporate animal protein in your Golden’s diet. Animal protein is very important for your dog’s health because it helps promote strength and endurance.
Give your Golden Retriever proper, quality nutrition to keep him healthy at all times. Keep an eye on his diet and be very aware of what you are feeding him. Don’t give him too much otherwise he may not be able to suppress his appetite and gain much weight. Also, watch out for types of food that your Golden may have an allergic reaction to.
If you have no idea how to prepare the right diet for your Golden, or have doubts with regard to his diet, consult with your veterinarian. Your vet can recommend foods that are best for your dog and may help you devise the type of diet that fits his individual needs. Giving your Golden proper diet can make your dog brimming with so much energy and life.
