Having Hypoglycemia Without Having Diabetes

by Ben Mester

A growing number of people are beginning to show sympotoms of hypoglycemia, but don't have diabetes. Is that possible? The answer is yes. Hypoglycemia, which is also known as reactive hypoglycemia, is more like a sensitivity to sugar in the blood stream than it is a diabetic response due to improper insulin levels. When people affected by hypoglycemia without diabetes don't eat or have poor eating habits, it can cause dips in blood sugar and erratic levels, which can lead to a wide variety of unpleasant symptoms including symptoms like dizziness, headaches, irritability, fainting, and many more. It has been noted that regarding blood sugar levels, how quickly the blood sugar levels change can often matter more than the overall levels. So sometimes, if the blood sugar dips and spikes within normal ranges, yet the time frame is short, it can cause symptoms to show.

People have different normal blood sugar levels. Not only that, but symptoms that arise from low blood sugar are much more intense in some persons than in others. And in a way, we all suffer from hypoglycemia. Any person with low blood sugar is going to have some symptoms arise. They'll potentially feel dizzy and light headed, fatigued, and irritable. But for some, their blood sugar dips lower than most and the corresponding symptoms that come about are also more serious . These persons are more apt to be true victims of reactive hypoglycemia.

Reactive hypoglycemia is typically set off by two factors. One is eating foods high in starches and simple carbs . A second is having poor eating practices , like going several hours without a meal, or skipping a meal. These factors can cause reactive hypoglycemia to start and many miserable symptoms to arise. If you read stories from people suffering from hypoglycemia, you'll start to see a common theme that the medical community does not generally diagnose persons who have that condition. They often tell them that there isn't really anything wrong or that there's not much they can do. If this sounds like you, then there are a few things you can try.

So in many cases , it is up to you to figure out how your own body works and reacts to the foods that you eat and your eating habits. A lot of people try keeping food journals. They write down what they ate, how much and how often they eat , and how they feel throughout the day. By keeping a food journal, it doesn't take a long time before you begin figuring out what foods are bad for them and what foods are helpful. In addition to this, a lot of people try experimenting a bit, especially with breakfast. Breakfast is particularly important for sufferers of hypoglycemia, and the foods you eat for breakfast and how much you eat can definitely get you off to a good beginning and can make a big difference in how the rest of the day unfolds. Conversely, if you begin the day poorly, it can take a long time to get yourself feeling normal and good again.
