Holy Shirt! Believers See Jesus
Diego Manuel Santo Ramirez Cruz O' Henry was soundly asleep one morning when he had a sudden and "miraculous" awakening. Though blinded by the light of the radiant sun blazing through his bedroom window, an alert Santo Ramirez Cruz O' Henry was certain he was trapped in a dream. "I couldn't believe what I was looking at," Santo Ramirez Cruz O' Henry said, struggling to find the right words to describe the scene in his apartment's bedroom. "Light was coming through the window and illuminating the entire room. It woke me up and when I looked up Jesus was looking back at me." No, Jesus did not make a special appearance in Santo Ramirez Cruz O' Henry's apartment that morning but the 23-year-old grocery bagger says the light of the sun was so intense that morning it burned an image of what he believes is Jesus on a T-shirt hanging in his closet. "Look, I never considered myself a holy man," Santo Ramirez Cruz O' Henry said, "but this is Jesus. I believe he has a message for me to deliver to the world. I just haven't figured out what he wants me to say. I know it's not do you want paper or plastic." Some who live in the quiet community near Santo Ramirez Cruz O' Henry's apartment complex say the message is loud and clear. He is one delusional individual. Many others, though, have flocked to the apartment to see the T-shirt since news of the image spread among residents. "Holy shirt,!" an astonished Steve Finley said. "He should really start charging people to get a view of this T-shirt. I was a Doubting Thomas when I first heard the news, but now that I've seen it with my own eyes there is definitely something there."Dana Roberts took a more critical view. "That looks like an armpit stain to me," she said. "Maybe if he tried a little more elbow grease or a stronger bleach, he'd get that thing off of the T-shirt. I'm not trying to disparage him but I just don't see what he believes he sees." Santo Ramirez Cruz O' Henry says he's been unable to get the T-shirt off his mind. He hasn't shaved, he's missed a week of work and he's eaten only sparingly. The experience has changed his view of the world and he says he has given less priority to material possessions. World renowned psychologist and motivational speaker Sharon Fuller-Baloney believes Santo Ramirez Cruz O' Henry is treading dangerous waters. "This is a classic case of the Jesus complex," she said. "We've heard of the Adonis complex but I've coined the phrase Jesus complex to describe his condition. This is a man so obsessed with Jesus that he has taken to looking like Jesus by growing a beard, he's fasting much like Jesus did during his stay on earth and he suddenly has a large group of believers and followers. I don't think this is healthy behavior. Thank God he hasn't broke out the Jesus sandals." For Santo Ramirez Cruz O' Henry, it doesn't matter what others think. He says people are welcome to laugh and mock him if they 'd like. As a true believer he's chosen to turn the other cheek. "Whenever I wear that shirt, I know Jesus is personally close to my heart," he said. "As far as I'm concerned, everyone else can be a spot on the inside of my tighty whiteys. They're dirty and they need to be cleansed in order to be saved."
