Sales Training Suggestions For Managers

by Adriana Noton

There are a few elements of sales training that should be offered to every new employee of any company. Managers and supervisors must be consistent in the way they train the employees, so that one set of employees is not trained differently from the others. This is the reason most companies have a standard procedure they go by when they are instructing. All employees must be shown and taught the same procedures, processes, rules and regulations, if there is to be any unity and loyalty within the company.

A new employee must be taught first to listen carefully to what the customers are saying. This is a good way to understand what their needs and desires are and how best to give them what they ask for. Pushy people rarely make good salespeople.

Positive people, however, make for very good salespeople. They can find reasons why what they have is perfect for the customer in front of them. They can relate to the customers on a comfortable level. When customers feel comfortable with salespeople, they are more forthcoming about their desires.

This makes it easier for the salesperson to do their job. They provide service with a smile, giving the customer confidence in the services or product the company is offering. Customers who feel confident in the products or services they have received will return in the future and will give the company a good reference to their friends and family. Repeat customers is the goal of all salespeople.

A good salesperson will learn everything he or she can about the company they are working for. They will want to know about all the products and services provided by the company. Managers should supply new employees with pamphlets, brochures and instruction sheets on how the company works, its background and the procedures that must be followed. These instruction booklets should also contain any rules that should be followed so that new employees will not overstep their bounds or become confused about what role they play within the company.

When a salesperson has been hired onto the company to sell products or services, they should not attempt to change how things are done unless they are hired on for that purpose. It is okay to suggest changes to procedures and processes if you see the need for improvement. However, these changes should never be implemented without the expressed permission of the corporate office or the supervisor, at the very least.

Training courses for working in sales should cover customer behavior and psychological factors that salespeople should keep in mind while on the job. Salespeople should understand what to expect from the people they encounter on a day to day basis. They should appreciate the opinions of others and take their viewpoints seriously.

Sales training should always include instruction on reading body language, facial expressions and tone of voice. If they are aware of certain methods people naturally use to get their point across without words, they will be able to control their own behavior. It is always best when the kindness they show to their customers is shown to be genuine and true.
