Detroit Lions Tickets - Football With A Roar

by Al Terry

Detroit Lions tickets are a rip-roaring way to enjoy some stellar football action. The Lions are definitely a team that is known for longevity and consistency. From a bright football past in the pre NFL days, the Lions are strong contenders on the field even today and promise football fans loads of fast-paced action on the field.

The Detroit Lions are part of the National Football League and are also affiliated to the National Football Conference and the NFC North. The Lions play their home games at Ford Field and can proudly show off four NFL Championships, Conference Championships and Division wins.

Spartan Success

The Detroit Lions began their career in 1930 as the Portsmouth Spartans. In 1929 the team had already made a name for itself on the football field and quickly rose to prominence within the NFL. Though the Great Depression did take its toll on a number of football teams at the time, the Spartans managed to stay ahead and is especially remembered for their Iron Man Game against the Green Bay Packers, where the Spartans won the match without substituting a single player.

However as the Depression progressed, it became harder and harder to keep the team afloat. Finally in 1934, the team was moved to Detroit and hosted a game that was played on Thanksgiving Day. This game tradition continues even today.

Comebacks, Curses And Controversies

The Lions soon found a number of fans ready and willing to buy Detroit Lions tickets. Not only had the team managed to win the NFL championships in 1935, they were able to play well right into the 1950s. Things would take a turn for the worst in 1958 when one of their star players, Bobby Layne, was traded to Pittsburgh. It was no secret that Layne was injured and it seemed like the Lions now wanted to get rid of him. Legend has it that before leaving, Layne said that Detroit would never win another championship for the next 50 years. This is known as the Curse of Bobby Layne and sure enough, the Lions have yet to win another championship.

Fans still lined up for Detroit Lions tickets and the Lions did manage to make one of the best comebacks in NFL history in 1957 but the Lions still struggled. It was only in the 1990s, after the appearance of Barry Sanders that things seemed to change for the Lions. In the new millennium, though the Lions are still a powerful team, they face new obstacles in the form of Matt Millen who was hired to be president and CEO of the team. Under Millen, the Lions have experience draft failures and have become saddled with the worst winning percentage in the NFL. Fans that believe in the team and have bought Detroit Lions tickets have been further outraged when Millen's contract was extended. In protest a 'Fire Millen' campaign was started by fans, which include chanting the slogan during games and even rooting for the opposing team in the hopes that Millen will be fired.

High Detroit Lions ticket sales and the enthusiasm of the fans show just what a great team the Lions are. You can watch them play live by ordering your Detroit Lions tickets online through an authorized ticket vendor.
