Hardware floors provide your home with a touch of elegance unlike any other flooring on the market, and there are many. Years ago, hardwood floors were used as a necessity only to be replaced by or, at the very least, sharing the market with carpeting and linoleum. Today, homeowners are once again appreciating the beauty and durability of hardwood floors.

The hardest part of hardwood flooring just may be choosing the type you want as there are many styles and colors. Colors may include light blond tones, natural tones, honey, reds or dark browns with styles also in abundance. Strips, planks and parquet are just a few of the different styles you're going to find when you begin your search for the perfect flooring for your home. What you will find; however, is that regardless of what style of home décor you may have, any of the styles of hardwood flooring will look great.

There are many advantages to having hardwood flooring besides the very obvious which is their beauty. Hardwood floors are very durable if taken care of properly. All flooring needs to be taken care of, including carpeting, tiles and linoleum. Carpeting will last for many years but when it's worn out, its life is over. Carpeting also gets stained very easily, especially with children, unlike hardwood flooring, which can be easily wiped clean. Carpeting will also hold in dirt, gravel and pet hair so it can't be seen but it's still there wearing down the life and making your home unsanitary. With hardwood flooring, you can see it and clean it up quickly. Hardwood flooring can become scratched and damaged if preventative care is not taken so here's some tips to ensure a long lifetime for your floor.

Heavy furniture should have felt pads placed under them to avoid scratching the floor when they're moved for cleaning or rearranging. Placing a rug or mat right inside your home so visitors and family can wipe their feet upon entering can help keep your floor clean. Sweeping the floor when it does become dirty will also help keep it looking great. When you first have your hardwood flooring installed, you'll probably have it treated with a water repellent but these aren't miracle workers. It's still important to wipe spills up immediately and place rugs in front of any appliances that may allow water on your floor. If you have house plants, make sure you have something underneath them and that you move them from the room for watering.

Hardwood flooring is beautiful, particularly when it's kept clean. The wonderful thing about hardwood flooring is its easy maintenance, unlike carpeting that requires continued vacuuming with a good quality vacuum cleaner. A simple broom is all the daily care required to keep your hardwood floor looking good. Most hardwood floors are also waxed or coated with polyurethane. Make sure you use the right type of cleaning solutions for washing, although they generally require nothing more than a semi damp mop, making sure to not leave excess water on the floor. With proper care, your hardwood floor will be look brand new for many years.
