New-Build Homes For Sale in Eastern England's Quality-of-Life Hotspots
The Halifax Quality of Life survey 2010, published recently, was good news for the East of England, with 11 entries from the region in the national Top 50. The survey tracks living standards in 408 local authorities of Great Britain using fifteen key indicators, including education, health and the housing market. The results could be great news for house hunters looking for a new-build home in Cambridgeshire, Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Suffolk. We look at properties on ten developments in some of the best areas highlighted by the survey in the East of England region.
Fifth overall in the survey comes South Cambridgeshire, the highest-ranking East of England authority. Residents at Bovis Homes' Serpentine Walk in Upper Cambourne, between Cambridge and St Neots, are nestled comfortably within that district. With three-bedroom townhouses priced at £225,000 and five-bedroom detached houses starting at £349,950, the emphasis here is on family buyers.
Buyers in East Hertfordshire, sixth nationally and second in the region, are spoilt for choice for new homes developments. A selection of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes are on offer at Kingfisher Park, Buntingford, a Barratt Homes scheme where prices range from £320,000 to £520,000. The scheme is just half a mile from the centre of this desirable market town, ideally located for the nearby A1(M) and M11.
Barratt Homes is also behind Woolens Grove, Hoddesdon. There are just three two-bedroom apartments left unsold here, priced £188,800 to £195,000. Ideal for young professionals, the scheme is within walking distance of the station, with services to Hertford taking just 15 minutes and a journey time to London of 40 minutes.
Housebuilder of the Year 2010 Weston Homes is offering one- and two-bedroom apartments at The Meads in Hertford. This scheme is also within easy walking distance of a rail station, with regular services to London taking just over 50 minutes. Situated next to the River Lea, the apartments cost between £149,995 and £254,995, with some benefitting from riverside views. Just 12 properties from the 130 built remain for sale, serving to illustrate the popularity of Hertford and the appeal of The Meads' location within the town.
Uttlesford is a district in the north of Essex around Saffron Walden. There's a last chance to buy a three-storey, four-bedroom detached house at David Wilson Homes' The Hornbeams in Takeley, a village just outside Dunmow. For £439,995, the buyer gets a spacious layout, a separate study that could make a fifth bedroom and a garage and additional parking space. Set in lovely Essex countryside, the location is within easy reach of Chelmsford, Bishop's Stortford and Stansted Airport.
East Cambridgeshire is 22nd in the Halifax national survey. Priced from £114,995 for a two-bedroom apartment and from £157,995 for a three-bedroom house, there are a number of property styles available at Taylor Wimpey's Lion Mills development in Soham and two show homes on site for viewing by appointment.
Homes at Gipping View in historic Stowmarket are right at the commercial heart of Mid Suffolk, the seventh-highest ranking East of England district. Developer Bovis Homes is offering an array of impressive house types, with three-bedroom examples starting at £194,950 and four- and five-bedroom detached houses from £289,950. The scheme is close to the town centre and railway station where services operate to London, Norwich, Ipswich and numerous other destinations in the South East.
With its delightful rural location, Elmside Lea, a scheme of 53 new homes from Hopkins Homes in Walsham le Willows has proved very popular with Suffolk homebuyers. Though just a few homes remain unsold, there is something available for almost everyone, from a two-bedroom coach house at £149,995 including a garage and parking space to a generously proportioned five-bedroom home set over three storeys for £429,995.
At 38 in the national table, Huntingdonshire used to be a county in its own right but is now a district within Cambridgeshire. Redrow has two Arts and Crafts-inspired show homes at its Priory Gardens scheme in St Neots, reflecting the choice of three- and four-bedroom properties for sale there priced from £199,950 to £304,950. A bustling market town set in splendid countryside yet only 45 minutes by train into King's Cross, St Neots is an ideal commuter base.
Mid Bedfordshire is tenth in the East of England region according to the Halifax survey, and 45th nationally. Set in beautiful parkland to the south of Stotfold, yet just a few miles from Letchworth and Hitchin, Bovis Homes' Fairfield Park development has two-bedroom coach houses for sale from £189,995 and four-bedroom detached and semi-detached houses from £349,995.
