Signs Of Infidelity You Must Act On Before It's Too Late

by Elaine Currie

You probably think it would not be easy to miss the signs of infidelity. However, many victims of an unfaithful husband or wife don't spot the signs until it is too late. Of course, trust should go hand in hand with love. Nobody in a loving relationship should be spying on their other half for no reason. Nobody should open their partner's mail. You shouldn't follow your significant other around like a mad stalker. But everyone should be alert to clues dropped along the way.

When you are in a loving relationship, you need to feel secure. You shouldn't feel you have to keep looking over your shoulder in case a rival is lurking in the shadows and waiting to take your place. You should be able to trust your spouse. But you must be careful not to let that love blind you to clues that all is not well. Here are three of the biggest tell tale signs of infidelity.

Working longer hours

Have you noticed that your spouse seems to be working harder lately? Are they putting in longer hours? Are they making more business trips out of town? Do you sometimes have difficulty getting in contact with your husband or wife when they are away? Is their phone switched off more than usual? Have you tried to contact them at their office and found other staff unhelpful or vague?

Many affairs start at work. The office romance has not become a cliché without a reason. Maybe your spouse's phone was switched off because a business meeting was taking place, but there might be a less innocent reason. If your spouse's colleagues seem vague, it could be that they are being deliberately evasive. You need to find ways to get to the truth without making an embarrassing scene at your partner's place of work.

There but not there

Do you get the feeling that your spouse's mind is elsewhere even when they are with you? If your husband or wife seems to be daydreaming a lot while in your company, this could be a strong sign that they would rather be elsewhere. If your partner seems uncommunicative, this could be because their thoughts are far away. If they are thinking about somebody else, they can't have a proper conversation with you. This could be a sign that your husband or wife is romantically involved with someone else.

In this situation you should tread with care because the emotional absence you have noticed could be a sign that your partner has problems and needs your help and understanding. Maybe your partner is worried about money or is having a rough time at work. Be very cautious when dealing with your suspicions in this case. You don't want to storm in with unfounded accusations if your spouse is innocent and needs your support to work through some problems.

A change in personality

Have you noticed that your husband or wife is behaving out of character? Guilt is a powerful force. If your spouse is guilty of cheating on you, they will have a weight on their conscience. They will also have a powerful desire to hide their guilt feelings. Lively, communicative people can become withdrawn and silent because guilt is playing on their mind all the time. Naturally quiet people can become lively and outgoing. This is an act to prove that all is well and they have nothing to hide. Did you and your spouse used to talk all the time, but now there is too much silence? This could be a sign that they are terrified of speaking in case they let a guilty secret slip out.

One of these signs alone does not prove that your husband or wife is being unfaithful. But if two of the clues, or even all three are present, you should take them as a danger sign. If you can catch an illicit romance that's just budding, you have more chance of saving your marriage than if you let the relationship blossom into a full-blown affair. You need to gather evidence quickly but you must do so carefully. Make sure your suspicions are well-founded before you tackle your partner on the subject.

Don't immediately assume what might be the symptoms of innocent problems are the signs of infidelity. But don't ignore them. As soon as your suspicions are aroused, take action without delay and stop your spouse cheating.
