Termites: What You Need To Know

Termites have become more and more active due to the wet weather we have been getting in the last three years. We have seen massive increases in termites breaching people's homes that have not been protected. Termites love wood that has been exposed to moisture as it makes the wood softer for them to chew and digest. Our customers are not aware of the damage that has been caused by termites until they notice there door frames have been eaten out as termites only leave the paint behind so you may not be aware until it is too late.
This is why it is very important to check yourself by tapping with the handle of a small screw driver all the areas of concern such as door surrounds, window surrounds, walls, skirting boards even wall cabinets anywhere there is wood in and around your home. You also have to make sure your hot water system or air conditioning over flow pipes is positioned away from the house. It is also a good idea to remove garden beds that are up against your home and keep an eye out for mudding trails on walls or weep holes outside. The main areas we see termite activity or damage are in wet areas such as the showers, bathrooms, kitchens and laundries but we have also seen them in the strangest of places under homes and in retaining walls.
The best way for you to protect your home or building is to have a complete termite barrier treatment installed and to keep up with your yearly termite inspections. You should only use termidor due to its proven track record to eradicate termites. We have treated thousands of homes using termidor and not one termite breach or damage has occurred and as you can see this is a fantastic result and why we prefer our customers to use termidor.
You can use cheaper insecticides which are called repellents or bait stations but these types of methods are a waste of money as termites can still breach your home. If you have a new home then you will not need to install a termite chemical barrier as there will be a physical barrier installed but you must keep up your yearly inspections or your warranty will be voided this is true for any chemical or physical barrier. The largest problem we see is that home owners are unaware that they had to have a yearly inspection done to keep there warranty and the termite inspection has to be done licensed termite inspector.
