Warehousing and Distribution The Future For The Courier Industry
by reed terry
Warehousing and distribution services are going to be the future of the logistics industry. With data and documents for companies moving more towards electronic transfers, the pick up and delivery of documents will move more towards computer file transfers and the need for transporting documents by a courier service will become less and less in demand.Services often provided by a courier company such as the pick up and delivery of bank work will soon be extinct, as the bank work in the near future will be processed electronically and delivered to the Federal Reserves in a computer file transit. The banking industry for a long time has relied on logistics and courier companies to provide the transport of the bank work and for many courier service companies this work is a large percentage of their income. Many delivery companies are based around the bank industry for the only service they provide, and when the electronic transfer system becomes the mainstream these companies will go out of business, unless they are able to begin landing new accounts and de versify into a area which will always require physical transportation.Warehousing and distribution is the industry which logistics and delivery business must move towards. This area will always require the physical transportation of goods from one destination to another. Perhaps in the distant future technology will be able to move, lets say one hundred computers from one location to another, but that time seems to be very far into the future.Warehousing and distribution requires more overhead then other areas of the logistics and courier service industry. With the example of the banking work, once you have the account you just use drivers to pick up and deliver, this is true also for most of the accounts with a delivery business. Warehousing requires the overhead of leasing or buying a warehouse to store your accounts hard goods, then employees to be able to inventory, pick and pack, load and then transport the goods to the desired location. The profit margin increases however, and there is more money to be made in the long run with the investment.Without moving your logistics company into an area which will always require the services of a transportation company, you will risk losing your business. The future clearly shows that documents and paperwork will be transferred from business to business in electronic form, and for courier companies this area , which for the most part is the largest income for most small courier business, will disappear and companies will no longer require the service as new and less inexpensive options begin to become available. Warehousing and distribution services will always be in demand for large hard good companies and though the overhead is greater then documents and paperwork delivery, profits from this industry are substantial.
