Chennai against Mumbai Champions League 2011.

by cricinfo

The third game of the third edition of the Champions League T20 will be played between the finalists of the third edition of the IPL. Mumbai Indians will travel to Chennai to take on the Chennai Super Kings at the M Chidambaram Stadium on September 24, a Sunday. The Mumbai-Chennai Champions League T20 match is expected to be a cracker of a game in which the two sides will try and outwit each other. The two sides had played each other twice in the previous year, with Mumbai winning the first game and Chennai trumping the opposition in the second. However, while Mumbai lost to Bangalore in the semi-final of the IPL, Chennai went on to win their second successive IPL tournament. The Super Kings are also the defending champions in the Champions League T20 as well, having won the second edition of the tournament in 2010 in South Africa. Chennai will be led by MS Dhoni, who would look to ensure that the side can continue to do well, despite having only just returned from the tour of England, which will get over only two days before the start of the tournament. With Dhoni having struggled through most part of the English tour, he will want to rest his aching body but whether he will be allowed to do so by the franchises remains to be seen. Sachin Tendulkar will face the same issue and that will mean that the two captains will be hoping to get fit by the time this vital match comes around on September 24. There will be other fitness issues for both the sides. Mumbai could be hit by Harbhajan Singh’s issue with the stomach muscle pull that he suffered from in England and it will remain to be seen whether he gets fit in time. On the other hand, Lasith Malinga is giving the T20Is against Australia a miss because of his own injury issues. Because it is an evening game on a Sunday, one can expect the crowds to be totally jam-packed in the stadium for this game between the Mumbai Indians and the home team Chennai Super Kings. One can also expect the cost of the tickets to be reduced from what one had seen in the IPL, which should allow more spectators to come in. Mumbai Indians had crashed out of the first round of the Champions League last season and will look to do better this season.
