NBA Basketball Betting
NOT available to public
The game of NBA basketball is very exciting. In fact, many are claiming that the NBA is back. It took at little siesta and became a game of low scoring. Today, the stars are coming out and scoring is up—fans love it. NBA Basketball has been called the easiest game to handicap by many sports bettors. There’s probably good reason too. For one, you are almost always in the game no matter what. Sure, there are those rare games where you get blown out early, but that’s rare.
If you are familiar with football betting, you probably will understand basketball betting in about 10 seconds. Basketball betting revolves around the spread. One team is almost always favored by a certain number of points over another. In rare cases, the game is a pick em. Here’s an example line: Dallas -7 Portland. In our example, the Dallas Mavericks are favored by 7 points over the Portland Trailblazers. If you bet on Dallas, you would need them to win by 7 points or more.
When there is a tie, you push and get your money back. If you are playing a parlay card, ties might win. Back to our example. If you wanted to take Portland, you would need them to either win the game or not lose by 8 or more. What makes the NBA so much fun is the fact that there is a lot of quick scoring. Teams have 24 seconds to shoot the ball or they lose possession. As a result, teams shoot very often. The end of games can produce a flurry of scoring.
Think about this. Let’s say you have the favorite and you need them to win by 6. There is only two minutes left in the game and the game is tied. What are the odds of you winning? Actually, you are right in it. Why? Well, six points is just two three point baskets or three regular baskets. Since teams typically fire up 2-3 shots minimum each minute, you know there will be 4-6 shots going up. Also if one team gets behind, then the other team will begin to foul and conserve time.
Betting on NBA basketball is not just fun, it’s a game where you can be in it until the end. Another way to wager on NBA basketball is totals lines. A totals line would be something like 183. You have the option of betting over the total or under the total. For example, if you took over 183, you want both teams to combine for 183 or more points. Take under the total and you want them to combine for fewer than the number.
When you make your wager, you will typically be charged a small vig if you win. For example, if you want to win $10, you would bet $11. It’s possible to bet teams on the money line as well. If you do so, you are wagering on a straight win—no points. If you are looking for a place to start, try the totals line. Many believe it offers the best opportunity for winning consistently.
