The Truth Behind Many Gyms In Miami

by Jack Terry

There is an old saying which proves to be true almost every time: You get what you pay for. This seems to be especially applicable to the world of fitness centers. Many places, both regional locations and national chains, entice customers by offering memberships that are only a few dollars a month and often times no money down. Many of these contracts come with stiff restrictions, not just limiting members to one particular club but also the days on which they can attend. The argument is made that this allows people of all economic levels to enjoy the benefits of working out, but it still begs the question: are these clubs more concerned about their members or their money?

An easy way to get a sense of that is to look at the layout of the club. Most of them focus primarily on cardio machines - treadmills and ellipticals - with a secondary focus on weight machines. Usually tucked in a corner will be a small collection of free weights and a section dedicated to circuit training. What you will not find, in many cases, is room for fitness classes and bootcamp classes to be held, space for people to stretch before or after working out, or places where trainers can work one-on-one with their clients.

In fact, in many cases, you will barely see trainers at all. Some of these clubs have over a thousand members, yet they only have two or three trainers on staff, and that is by design. These clubs would be continually overcrowded if all of their members were to visit on a regular basis. Lines would be interminable, people would get frustrated and membership would plummet. They expect people not to show up because they know that the people who are most easily discouraged from working out are oftentimes the same people who buy these discounted memberships: people who are new to exercising.

It does not matter what kind of change a person is making in their lives - career, home, health - success comes from continual motivation. Living a healthy lifestyle takes many adjustments, none of which happen overnight and many of which take time to show their benefits. The greatest factor people cite when talking about their success when it comes to exercising, making positive changes in their life and living a healthy lifestyle is having someone there to receive encouragement from and offer encouragement to.

Alone on an unfamiliar machine can be discouraging. Surrounded by people, just like you, in energetic fitness classes, all working toward the same goals can be the difference between success and failure, just as having a personal trainer who is dedicated to getting you results can be. There are many gyms in Miami. Be sure you find the one that wants to see you come back.
