A Big Push For Japanese IT Outsourcing To India
Japanese IT off-shoring / outsourcing momentum to India is getting a major push in the form of a body for promotion of investments from Japanese firms into India.
Professor Eisuke Sakakibara of Keio University, Japan, former board member of Wipro and, currently an advisor at Wipro Technologies has undertaken the major initiative of setting up an Institute for Indian Economic Studies (IIES). The institution will be responsible for providing an analysis of the Indian economy, as well as, deal with the regulatory issues for Japanese companies keen on investing in India. Azim Premji, Chairman of Wipro is to be advisor to the Japanese firms from the Indian side of this body.
Prof. Sakakibara talking to the Indian media was of the opinion, Japanese firms were more than keen to invest in India, especially in respect of IT outsourcing, which is to be a key issue. While, IT outsourcing has not been widespread among Japanese corporations, it is fast gaining increased footing, and it won‘t be long before Japanese conglomerates jump on the bandwagon of those off-shoring / outsourcing IT / BPO / ITeS projects to India.
Cautious, at first, like the French, India’s educated, skilled and talented workforce have seduced the Japanese into setting up an institution to guide and help them make careful investments in the sub-continent. And, why not? Not only has India been responsible for making the fortunes of little jump start-up firms, but also ailing giants, who sought its assistance by off-shoring / outsourcing a major part of their operations to India. A smart move, indeed, as the sub-continent helped restore their profits, pulling them out of the red, firmly into the black!
Clearly, India has made a strong impression, capturing the confidence of the hard-working, conscientious, stickler for details Japanese. A new wave of Japanese off-shoring / outsourcing is about to begin. The Japanese are coming to India armed with investments and outsourced IT!
