Kids Pottery Wheel: The Power Of Concentration

by Roger Brown

How can a kids pottery wheel improve the concentration of your child? We all mostly know that concentration is a learned skill. Even though the payoff is enormous for focused attention, none of us really like to concentrate. Our minds gravitate to the next shiny object in our peripheral vision. What happens is we are constantly distracted by things that we think might be important and this comes from our ancestral past that had a lot more dangerous things in it than our current easy social life hats. It is unfortunately though, resulted in a lot of inattention and concentration deficit. Just so we have a baseline, what is concentration actually anyway? Concentration is your ability to focus intently on a subject and ignore the outside influences that tend to distract us. Children in particular are fascinated by everything in their field of vision and concentration to them does not come easily. That is where the kids pottery wheel can lend your child some assistance. By training the mind to focus on the wet clay, you are helping train your child's brain to lock onto a task with laser intensity. The clay is wet and will dry if your child doesn't work until the clay is formed in the shape they want it to eventually assume. How will getting better at concentration help your child? Reading comprehension - Learning to concentrate on one thing at a time is absolutely essential if you're going to be a reader. We all know that readers are leaders and we all want to encourage our children to pick up books and gain information when they need it. By the example of molding wet clay into something real like a piece of pottery, you are training your child's brain to concentrate for longer and longer periods of time. Math ability - You are also building the strength of additional neurological connections as well through the action of your hands working with the wet clay. By forming additional neural pathways you are essentially giving your mind that many more different ways to quickly solve a problem. This will give your child additional ability in mathematics and science. Foreign language study - Since foreign languages are simply expanding our vocabularies and giving us are codified way of representing those to be able to communicate with other people, the additional synaptic connections that you make through working with the kids pottery wheel will give your child the ability to learn foreign languages faster. In the final analysis, our job as parents is mainly to put our children in situations where they will learn to function better in life. The kids pottery wheel is a great place to start.
