How to Take the Perfect Photograph: From Lighting to Your Camera Battery Replacement
Photography is an art in which it can take years to develop excellence. But that doesn't mean that learning a few helpful tips won't allow you to shoot picture perfect photos. Read on to learn how to take the best possible photographs.
1. Your Background: If you can't get excited about the subject matter of your future photograph, chances are it won't be good. Look for new ways to capture old or cliche subject matter.
2. Light: This is the most difficult aspect of being a good photographer. Texture in your photographs is difficult to achieve if you don't know how to treat light. Brightness is a great way to show rugged features; dim, warm light can bring out deeper shadows; and contrasts between light and dark are a great way to convey distance in your photographs. Ideally, you should know what kind of lighting will make your photographs the best possible. If possible, take a black and white photo first to get an idea for the feel of the shot.
3. Proper Settings: It's important to have your camera on the right setting depending on what kind of picture you're taking. Auto is okay, but if you want to shoot insects, choose Macro. If you're photographing your little brother, set it on portrait mode. And don't be afraid to experiment, switching the setting can give your photo an entirely different look.
4. Balance: You don't want a photograph with a head peaking up from the bottom and a swath of sky. It's important to center and balance whatever you're photographing.
5. Flash On: This gives you control of the flash setting so that it goes off when you're ready. Stand no more than 10 feet away, and try to place your models in the shade to avoid squinty shots.
6. Be Level: If you're worried about taking a level horizontal shot, don't be afraid to snap three or four. One will be better than the rest and since everything's digital these days, you can choose which one you want to print out on inkjet photo paper.
7. Memory Flash Cards: Don't miss photo opportunities because you don't have enough space on your memory card. Make sure you have extra compact flash cards, or that you upload the photos you want to your computer instead of deleting them to make room for new ones.
