Great Nightlife Near Brooklyn Hotels
Brooklyn is a far more hopping borough than people give it credit for. Sure, it's known for it's artistic residence and it's great eateries, as well as big attractions like Coney Island and the New York Aquarium. But if you are staying in a Brooklyn hotel and are looking to experience some nightlife nearby so you don't have a long trek back with a couple of drinks under your belt, there's quite a few places that are a must to experience.
One of the few arcades left in the city, Barcade combines the best of both worlds; drinks and old school video games. Opened in 2004, it was the brainchild of several friends who decided that buying old 80s video game cabinets and combining it with drinks was a great idea and it worked. It's located just off the L or G trains in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, so you can get there from your Brooklyn hotel in a jiff. Williamsburg has a lot of great bars in general, so if you tire of Pac Man and Centipede, you can bar hop easily in that neighborhood.
If you are looking for something other than the standard bar and music fare, Brooklyn Bowl is a great place to check out, not far from your Brooklyn hotel. Yes, it's bowling, but bowling with delicious cocktails, music and fun theme parties. They've had some major artists perform concerts here, from MIA to Cibbo Matto, to even Biz Markie spinning records as a DJ for the night. Bowling here is not like the bowling your grandparents are used to. It's just a few blocks away from Barcade, off the L train.
Over in Park Slope, there's Southpaw, a huge 5,000 square foot venue that has everything from live concerts to Djs spinning music, a well stocked bar, and ample space to get your groove on. You can hope the D, N, R, or 1, 2, and 3 trains to the venue. That's a lot of ways to get to a lot of fun.
If you want to enjoy the sights and sounds of Coney Island as you venture out of your Brooklyn hotel but are still looking for night time fun, there are free dance parties during the summer on the boardwalk. A DJ sets up and let's go, with everything from oldies to techno being played, depending on the night. Feel free to get down with both the locals and tourists.
No matter where you travel in Brooklyn, there's definitely something to do after 9 pm that'll keep keep the party going. You don't have to go into Manhattan and spend big bucks to have a good time with New York nightlife.
