How to Turn Your Temp Job Into A Permanent One
Nice tactic for a turbulent job market…
With many companies in both the public and private sectors reluctant to give out full time positions as the financial situation remains turbulent, getting a full time job for some might be quite tricky. The one job most people can get is a part time or temporary one. This may be through an advert or through a temping agency who can find you series of short term temporary contracts with a range of companies.

When you find a company that you actually want to work for though you may decide you are willing to do whatever it takes to get a full time job there. Here is some advice on how to make this happen:

Go above and beyond

The very best thing you can do is go above and beyond the call of duty and show your boss that they would be less of a company if they did not give you a full time position or take you on permanently. Even a company that is not advertising for a position will be convinced that you should be taken on if you make enough of an effort or help the company immensely. Think of it like this: if you can bring enough worth to the company that is more than what they would need to pay you in a salary, you have a good case for them giving you a job. Making a job for yourself is much better than waiting for one to be created that you might be interested in and might have a chance of getting.

Get to know everyone

Another thing you can do is make sure you get to know everyone as well as you can. Not that you should go and knock on your bosses door and ask him or her for a pint, but in every situation you should try your best to let them get to know you so that they care about your being in the company. Say you want physiotherapy jobs but you have only managed to get a role as a locum dietician. If your boss knows that you are a nice person and then they happen to be considering filling a dietetic role, you will be immediately in their head. Alternatively a Locum agency can assist with finding your right field.

Prove your worth

If you do nothing else you just need to prove that you are worthy of a job in the company. Treat every day like a job interview: dress smart, work really hard, prove your knowledge and sell yourself at every opportunity.
