Date A Millionaire Online: Learning The "I" Internet Lingo
Chatting lingo, is one of the most practical and fun way to play with words while online. Instead of typing in many letters, you can substitute it with an acronym that makes it lot easier and time saving. Unless you know how to learn the chatting lingo, you'd never get to appreciate it. Here are a few online chatting lingo for you to learn and use.
Here are some "I" acronyms that can help you get a kick-start in getting to know the online lingo:
IM - Instant Message. When my friend tells me to "IM" her, it means I have to get myself logged on to chat so I can message her because she needs to tell me something. IM is a popular chat acronym, in fact, it's another name for "chat."
IME - In My Experience. When you have experienced such situation that try and recall this. Chatting would be one of the most useful "getting to know you" opportunity to win your singles. Share your experiences while allowing the other person on the line to share their experience too.
IMO/ IMHO - In My Honest Opinion/ My Opinion. Used in the same context as "IME", but more on expressing your own opinion about a certain subject matter. Be careful with this though. Of course, giving your opinion is a part of opening up to each other, but be careful on what you say on sensitive topics like politics, religion, etc. since you wouldn't want to argue with the other person on the line before you even get to meet each other in person or F2F (face to face) right?
IRL - In Real Life. Just as it says, added to your statement with what you are doing in real life. For example, "You're funny! LOLling IRL!" which means, "You're funny! Laughing Out Loud In Real Life!" It might also be used to compare your online life with how you are in real life, for example, "I'm not very tall IRL, though u might think that I am based on how I am online."
IMS - I Am Sorry or I'm Sorry. Although if you are really, really apologetic, you might want to skip the acronyms and go on and spell the complete word for "sorry" to show how sincere you are.
IOW - In Other Words. Used to express or offer clarity. For example, when your chat mate is explaining something complicated about her job, but it all involves child-care, then you can say, "Ah, IGI, so IOW, ur work is in child-care?" which means, "Ah, I Get It, so In Other Words, your work is in child-care?" Be careful though to not sound rude or condescending when you use this.
Don't think of this as homework you need to memorize, but as a fun way of communicating better with your online matches!
