Cisco CCN Certification Overview

by Matthew Olivieri

Experienced Cisco Certified Network Associates can find great job opportunities inside a variety of IT companies, as they possess great knowledge and skills, required for applying Cisco technologies into practice. Cisco Certified Network Associates can easily build a solid, financially and professionally rewarding career in the field, or they can use their earned CCNA title to approach superior-level Cisco technical certifications, such as the much desired CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert). The CCNA certification primarily suggests a solid foundation of networking knowledge and skills. Cisco Certified Network Associates are capable of installing, configuring, and operating with LAN, WAN and dial access services for small networks with fewer than 100 nodes. Cisco Certified Network Associates are also capable of using a variety of network protocols such as IP, IP RIP, IGRP, RIP, Serial, Frame Relay, VLANs, Ethernet and Access Lists. Considering the fact that there are no prerequisites for the Cisco CCNA certification, both existing and aspiring IT professionals are eligible for entering the certification track. At present, candidates to the CCNA certification can choose one of the two existing Cisco CCNA certification tracks; one can either attend to CCNA – INTRO (Introduction to Cisco Networking Technologies) and CCNA – ICND (Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices) courses and pass the 640-801 CCNA exam, or attend to the same two previously mentioned courses but pass two distinctive exams: 640-821 INTRO and 640-811 ICND. It is important to note that the CCNA certification has limited validity. Once obtained, the certification is valid for three years; a recertification exam is required in order to renew your expired CCNA accreditation. You can renew an expiring Cisco CCNA certification by either passing the CCNA exam, the ICND exam, any 642 – professional level or Cisco Specialist exam, or one of the CCIE written exams. Regardless of the CCNA certification track you decide to follow, proper Cisco training and a good level of experience with Cisco products and technologies are crucial for becoming a Cisco Certified Network Associate on the first attempt. At present you are free to choose from many different types of Cisco training, including e-learning programs and downloadable self-study materials. However, if you are looking for in-depth, well-structured and comprehensive Cisco CCNA training, then you should consider booking an official, instructor-led training course. Unlike other forms of Cisco training, instructor-led training courses are especially designed for classroom study, enabling students to assimilate all the required conceptual and practical knowledge in a short period of time. Instructor-led Cisco CCNA training places an emphasis on active learning, encouraging students to participate in class and exchange ideas and opinions regarding various course topics. Corroborated with high-standard study conditions and official Cisco-approved materials designed especially for classroom study, the active learning approach allows students to familiarize themselves with Cisco technologies and products more rapidly and with less effort. During instructor-led Cisco training courses, students are also encouraged to participate in a variety of scenarios that simulate on-the-job situations, crucial for ensuring that the future CCNAs will be able to efficiently manage a series of professional challenges in their future careers.
