Pomeranian Training: Reasons Why Barking Habit Occurs And How To Stop It

by Rebecca Golding

Barking is a normal behavior among dogs but sometimes, some dogs such as the pomeranian have the inclination to bark considerably more than the usual. Excessive barking occurs due to various reasons hence it's necessary for the owner to identify the reason so that he'll be able to tell what pomeranian training technique to adhere to in order to reduce such annoying and unpleasant behavior.

Reasons for barking could be due to:

Warning

Pomeranians are known to be protective of their masters so more often, they'd bark in the hopes of alerting their beloved humans that there is danger looming around. It's acceptable if that is the situation however, if your little pup barks at everyone, even the passersby, then it's no longer appropriate hence the need to deal with it immediately. If your dog starts barking at the jogger passing your house, distract your pet, be it by making a sound or calling his name, so as to divert his focus on you. When he stays silent, reward him with treat or praise. Quickly enough, he will figure out that joggers along with other passersby are not threats thus he does not need to bark.

Defense

If he believes that a threat is coming (even if it is not actually a threat), your pet may bark not only to warn you but also to try to defend you and himself. Barking is one of their defense mechanisms hence will use it to intimidate or scare their opponents.

Fear

This small dog breed with abundant textured coat may also bark due to fear. This usually happens when he's alone outside or in a room. Finding something he deemed threat can also bring about fear-induced barking. When this happens, train him to get used to being alone. Initially, place his crate or bed inside or near your room or in any area of the house that's frequented by people. Then gradually move his bed/crate, one step at a time, away from that area to where you would like him to be. By rewarding him if he stays quiet even if the distance between you increases, he will eventually figure out that silence means rewards.

Discomfort

Since they are unable to talk, dogs main medium of communication is through barking and body gestures. They bark, whine or whimper to let their owners find out that they're sick, needs to go or uncomfortable with their setting. So if the temperature is scorching hot and he is outside barking like crazy, it is best to move him to a cooler area not just to ensure his comfort but also to avoid heatstroke. If he whines, seams fragile and isn't as active or lively as he used to be, it is best to examine him for any irregularities. Should you believe that there's something wrong with him, it helps that you contact your vet right away.

Pomeranians have a tendency to bark excessively in any situation but more frequently, barking is a result of a certain issue. However, if your pet went through pomeranian training and you were able to teach him to control barking, then you will never have to be worried about disturbing your neighbors during nighttime because of your little pom's sound.
