Don't Let The Struggling Economy Prevent You From Taking That Next Big Step

by John V

With the challenges of a struggling economy it is getting more and more difficult for men to be able to afford a diamond as a token of their commitment to the women they love. Rather than disappointing his fiancé, a man can find a beautiful imitation diamond for an affordable price if he does a little research.

When a person purchases a natural diamond, depending on the size, weight, clarity, and cut, an engagement ring could cost $10,000 and above. For a struggling student or young business professional this is simply out of range. At the same time, a fake or imitation diamond with the same parameters should run you only a fraction of that price. Those that look more like the real thing may cost a bit more than those that are obviously fake, but this means that fake diamonds are actually in anyone's price range.

While there are many different materials that have been used to create fake diamonds, it used to be more difficult to duplicate the sparkle and luster of a natural diamond. Nowadays, technology allows for better cutting and manufacturing techniques including special coatings that give fake diamonds a much better appearance. Most fake diamonds cannot be separated from real ones by the naked eye, and even a jeweler needs magnification to see the differences with some of the new imitations on the market.

Synthesized diamonds are made from the same carbon that natural diamonds are made of. They are crystals that are grown to specified sizes and have properties very similar to those of the real thing. When they are cut well, they appear so much like natural diamonds that they are very hard to distinguish from the real thing. Another synthesized jewel that many people use in the place of diamonds is moissanite. This is not a fake diamond but is a nearly colorless jewel that is grown under carefully controlled laboratory conditions out of silicon carbide. Because of its intense inner fire, a moissanite ring may appear too sparkly for connoisseurs of natural diamonds. At the same time, if the sparkle is the part of the diamond ring you prefer, moissanite may be just the thing to use when you pop the question.

If the economy has emptied your pockets but you really want a traditional diamond ring to present to your fiancé, take a little time to check out the many beautiful options you have with fake diamond rings. Their beauty will make your girl more than happy and the price will leave some change in your pocket.
