Developers Bring Choice And Urban Chic To Bristol New Homes

by Keith Osborne

House buyers looking for new homes in Bristol, hunting for cutting-edge properties with eco-credentials, urban chic or quirky character will be spoilt for choice, as a range of housebuilders get to work on some outstanding developments across the city.

Illustrating that urban and eco living can go hand-in-hand, Westmark's Deanery Square development features 55 eco-studios and apartments in an enviable city centre location - opposite Bristol cathedral and just a stone's throw from leafy College Green. As well as its impressive setting, the development offers a choice of studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments, all of which have been awarded an Eco Homes 'Excellent' rating. Prices start from £125,000 for studios, £155,000 for one-bedroom properties, and £250,000 for two-bedroom apartments.

For those looking for an energy-efficient home in Bristol's fashionable, redeveloped waterfront area, Crest Nicholson's Harbourside development is in a desirable location right at the heart of the action. The latest phase, Beacon House, is made up of 47 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments over seven floors, priced from £259,000, all offering views of the water. Some properties are so energy efficient they could provide a huge saving of up to £275 every year through condensing boilers and a full set of heating controls, while the double glazing on all properties there will save home-owners £140 each year. Some 50% of the properties are already sold, so anyone interested in buying there will need to move quickly.

Also located in the city centre, but offering apartments with a more affordable price tag for buyers on a tighter budget, is Taylor Wimpey's Meridian development. This stand-alone development has a choice of contemporary one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments from £102,995, plus a choice of spacious penthouses. All properties boast allocated parking and are set in a convenient city centre location with amazing views of Bristol's iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Further out of the city centre in South Bristol, Urban Splash has created a set of funky eco-apartments designed for 'loose-fit living' at Lakeshore. Housed inside a converted Grade II-listed former tobacco warehouse, the eco-homes feature high ceilings, full height-glazing, underfloor heating, and spacious balconies. Outside, the apartments sit over their own fishing lake, in ten acres of green space that is designed for outdoor living - with BBQ areas, an outdoor gym, nature trails, boules area, and allotments. Situated about three miles from the city centre, Lakeshore is in an area that is benefiting from a great deal of regeneration, which is set to encourage a growth in transport links, leisure amenities, and public services in the local area. A shared ownership initiative will be launched soon on the Bristol Lakeshore property to help first-time buyers get their foot on the property ladder.

Finally, another development to watch out for is Barratt Homes' Nd10@The Zone, coming soon to Bristol city centre. With an on-site gym and communal roof terraces, this development will be located close to Bristol Temple Meads station, within easy walking distance of Broadmead shopping centre and the city's top shops, businesses and entertainment.
