Improve Your Business with a Unique Business Card

by Prana Nossel

The use of business cards is still one of the most effective marketing tools for attracting new clients. In today's competitive world, with so many businesses offering competitive services a unique business card can leave a desired and lasting impression. It is your tool to present yourself or business in a professional way.

In the electronic age in which we live handing a potential client a business card that they can see, touch and feel in other words, engaging all the senses, sure beats merely exchanging email addresses. This brings me to my next point, how to create a business card that communicates your goals and vision in an effective way.

Have a look at some of the business cards that you may have collected over the years and see which ones stand out for you. Ask yourself what is it about this card that I like? There is an alchemy and a psychology involved that a good graphic designer will know about. The combination of colour, image and text can stimulate the imagination in such a way that your card can create trust and rapport in the mind of the client.

Your business card should be congruent with the industry that you are in, for example if you are a creative then your card and logo could look creative, artistic and flashy. On the other hand if you are selling insurance, your business card would be more conservative and professional, only giving the important information.

By giving someone your business card you can quickly and easily leave them with the necessary information in a condensed form. Here are some important elements that can be included in a business card:

- Company Name - Logo - Slogan - Your Name - Title or Description of Work Provided (i.e. Web and Print Design) - Phone Number - Email Address - Website Portfolio Address - Mailing Address

There are many software programs available to create your own business cards at home. On the other hand if you are not a graphic designer and wish to create something more professional, I would recommend using a graphic design company. In this way you can also create brand awareness by continuing the same theme through all your business stationery eg. Logo, letterheads, brochures and website.

Lastly, this might seem like silly advice, but don't leave home without a resonable number of cards. If you have them use them. You never know when you might meet someone or be somewhere where you could leave a few behind or pin-up on a notice board or shop window.
