Going Back To Meet Our New Family Member
After my mom told me my sister was pregnant, I knew that I was going to need to make the trip back home so that I share in the joys of my new family member. In order for me to be as comfortable as I wanted to be back in Ohio I would definitely want to find a means to get my own set of wheels. Let me tell you, it's been a long time since I've even had a car I moved out to Portland, Oregon from a small Midwest city. The great thing about me changing my home base was that I wouldn't need to take a car with me. The public transport system was really inexpensive and simple to use.
For just a little bit of money I was able to get transportation for the entire visit and was pleasantly surprised considering I had never done this before. I actually managed to find a SUV and didn't have to concern my family with driving me to go get it. It was that close to home. I was definitely going to be getting the money's worth out of this car.
My parents aren't really the type that likes to travel. I knew that my Great Grandpa used to hitch rides on trains when he was growing up. Surely I got my joy of adventure from him. Every time my folks have to leave the house, they end up making a big deal out of it. I've never got why they act like this even when it's simply a little trip to run out of town for the day.
It's kind of amusing, the way they behave. But at the same time, I like my independence and didn't want to be asking Ma and Pa if I could borrow their vehicle; those days were long gone. Plus, with the way they behave they would have been too worried about an imaginary emergency. From their viewpoint they just never knew when they might have to leave. It was out of the ordinary if they actually decided on leaving the house.
My family and I all got to be there at the hospital when the day my sister ushered in the new addition to our family had finally arrived. When the day finally arrived to drive them home I got to be the one that accepted that amazing responsibility. My sister and her husband didn't want to have to take their eyes off their daughter. Thankfully I had plenty of room to fit Mom in the SUV too, and we all got a chance to be there when my new niece entered her home for the first time.
