You're Living the Miracle Now

by Roger Kenneth Marsh

Do you take life for granted? We actually experience amazing blessings (true miracles!) over and over again, until they just seem to be everyday ho-hum events.

A thousand years ago, in a far-away land, I sat on the dirt floor of a small hut in a tiny village where I lived with my family. I reflected on my ideal future: how would I create my life if I could live it any way I wanted?

But in that time, most of my days, and the days of everyone around me, were spent meeting our basic needs for living. Life was simple, but not especially comfortable nor easy. Enjoying creature comforts such as hot water for my tea meant a long trek to carry the water by hand in ceramic pots, collecting wood, building a fire, and patiently tending the process to completion. It took hours.

And that was just for hot water! A meal, as you can imagine, was a far more involved process. Food was sufficient, although not varied. We ate pretty much the same items each day, growing what the local climate would allow. We tried to have one hot meal per day, but because the process was so involved this was not always possible.

We lived by the sun; when it was up and we could see we were up. When it went down, and it became darker and colder, we went down. We slept on the floor with simple, handmade grass mats and straw for pillows. We slept in the same clothes we wore all day with simple blankets made from wool and sometimes animal skins. Through the days and nights temperatures fluctuated between very hot and very cold and required extra clothing to maintain our comfort.

While we were able to maintain a sufficient level of cleanliness, staying clean was not a priority, nor was it easy. We basically lived in the dirt and that dirt tended to get everywhere. Water was a precious resource and pouring it all over your body was not its highest and best use. Human waste was managed via a hole in the ground a short walking distance from our home. Since this location moved from time to time as it filled up, sometimes it was hard to find!

The next nearest village was some 100 miles away. Since this was a long two day walking journey, only the most healthy and adventurous in our village had been there. Most people in our village lived and died never having ventured more than 50 miles from their place of birth. Knowledge of "the world out there" came mostly from the rare visitor "just passing through."

As I sat in the hut, reflecting on my life as it was, while maintaining a full-hearted gratefulness for my life at that time, I began to imagine life as it could be - far into the future. As I allowed my imagination to run wild and free, I shared the following with my family:

"In the future we will experience an abundance of clean water available at our command. It will gush out in crystal clear streams, hot or cold, right into our home with no need to carry it from anywhere. In fact, water will be so plentiful, each day we'll experience a deluge similar to that of a waterfall, drenching and refreshing our bodies at any temperature we desire. The hole in the ground will be long forgotten, as our human waste will be swept away like magic, far from our home, with no worry or concern on our part.

"Heat and fire for cooking will be available in an instant, with no wood needed, no smoke, and no ashes to clean up. Food will be abundant, always available in our home, with no need to hunt or farm. In fact, our meals will be created from food from all over the world; the variety will be amazing as we taste the flavors of many different countries."

I continued, "We'll be able to control the temperature of our home with no effort: warm inside when it's cold outside, and cool inside when it's hot outside. There will be no dirt in our home and the floors are covered with soft fluffy materials that cradle and warm our feet as we walk on them. There will be light whenever and wherever we want it, and we will be able to easily see when the sun goes down. Our beds will be soft and fluffy, big enough for two, and so warm and comfortable we'll have no need to wear our clothing at night. In fact, we'll have clothing from around the world that is clean and ready to wear. And we'll have so much of it we can wear different clothes every day!

We will be able to travel far from our home and explore the world around us with ease. With no effort required on our part we'll just sit there and be transported hundreds, and even thousands of miles in less than a day. News from far-away places will be available at our fingertips and we'll be able to stay in touch with anyone, anywhere on the planet in an instant. The whole world will be like family!

My family smiled at my fantasy and while admitting it sounded crazy and impossible, they all agreed it would be an amazing and beautiful world to live in. Imagine!

One of the Power Principles of my coaching system is to always focus on the good. Would you like to see, create, and experience more good in your life? More miracles?

Try this:

Gratitude is one of the highest forms of energy and presence you can bring into any moment. When you take things for granted, you are not being grateful. What are you taking for granted? Get a pen and paper and take the next few minutes to write down everything you are grateful for. Write down all the things in your life that are truly miracles when you just stop and think for a moment (hey, if you got clean running water coming into your home, that's a miracle!). Acknowledge all the blessings in your life and experience the deeply beautiful and powerful energy of gratitude.

Bonus Assignment - share with someone else something you are grateful for, especially if it has something to do with their being in your life.

Congratulations - you're one step closer to your mojo!
