Why You Should Be Nice To Your Grandparents
You'll miss them when they're goneā¦
Grandparents tend to get a bad reputation for being set in their ways, old fashioned and intolerant of the younger generation. This may not be true for many but for those that are like that they have a few good excuses: many lived through the war and deserve more respect than they are given considering what they went through, the world has changed massively since they were children technologically and socially meaning the gap in understanding between generations has never been greater. And on top all that their bodies may well be failing and they are worrying about death.

So just in case you need any convincing, here are some reasons why you should always be nice to your grandparents:

Your Cells Came Directly From Your Grandmother

Yes this sounds weird but it's true: when a girl is born all the eggs she will ever produce are already there inside her. So when your mum was growing inside your grandmother, you were one of the cells inside your mother. This is indeed a bit of a gross subject to think about but it should make you think about how directly biologically linked you are to your grandparents. This knowledge should hopefully make your respect them as much, if not more than your parents.

They Need Your Help

When people get old they quite often find themselves a bit lonely and cut off from the world, especially if some of their friends have pass away or if they have physical difficulties. What they need is for you to stay in contact with them, visit them, listen to their stories and try to help them stay active. A great way to bridge the gap between the generations is to introduce your grandparents to social networking. The older generation is the fastest growing user demographic of sites like Facebook and is perfect for helping them to stay in touch with friends and family.

Thanks to things like domestic lifts (also known as home lifts) they may not need too much physical help around the house before they get really old, but just being available to pop round and lend a hand to other tasks can be a real boost.

They Might Leave You Something in Their Will

It is a morbid subject quite literally but death is inevitability and if you are nice to your grandparents they might just leave you something in their will.
