Debt Collector Phone Harassment
Lawfully, a collection call is measured soliciting. They are advertising or selling on the benefits of paying them what they say your obliged to pay, in trade for them not continuing to be a nuisance to you, not creating any more negative remarks on your credit history and/or not suing you in court. That is the inference anyhow. A few will flat out say it. As a result, the callers are monitored for their efficiency. A call lacking a "sale" (your verbal commitment to make payments) is not fruitful and they may call you yet again. Nonetheless, a call without a sale that considerably exceeds the normal call time for most calls of this character will result in your account being placed on the "do not call" inventory or listed as "noncollectable," in which case you will no longer be given any calls.
This is a slightly time-consuming, but it works incredibly well. Your intention, if you desire to pursue this tactic, is to keep the caller on the phone for as long as possible. The joke is to never converse about the collection account, but make it appear as if you are genuine. Talk about political affairs, collection laws, the evil bank system and your political view about the Federal Reserve Board. Talk as if you are not listening to them, or that you are not smart enough to address their specific questions. For example, Bill Collector: "Sir, I need to know when you intend on paying this bill." You: "You people are all the same, you called me last week. You know, this system of banking has to go, it is nothing but evil."
It does not really matter what you speak, just steer clear of discussing the collection account, do not provide any payment information, do not make any commitments to pay, and sound sincere. If it sounds like the caller is going to end the call, ask for a superior. This could double the call time in many situations. Many times you can request them to hold for a few minutes and even pass the phone back and forth from yourself to your spouse and each take turns running the caller over. Carry on the conversation until they hang up. Do not hang up on them since they will probably continue to call you.
Keep in mind that you are not talking to the real person who wishes to collect from you on the phone, but you are using the discussion to influence their telephone software. I know this because for years I've subscribed to their trade employment journals and researched the advertisers and the software the telephony systems they wholesale to debt collection firms. I know how their software works and I know how they perform things like skip tracing.
Skip tracing is when a debt collector contacts associates, neighbors or relatives to acquire information about you, such as your latest telephone number if you recently altered it to avoid collection calls. The sole best way to end the calls is for you to manipulate the system they are relying on to call you.
Understand that these days we have laws and even big business practices that disallow people from coming to your house and breaking your kneecaps or kidnapping your horse or dog unless you shell out to pay your debt. Today they use words in black and white printed on a piece of paper, totally harmless and much better for your wellbeing.
