Not the government anyway!

It seems like it is getting closer and closer every day. The legalisation of cannabis is a hot topic at the moment as the economic downturn has led many people to consider the potential profits from legalising and then taxing cannabis to be a very attractive financial opportunity. Stoners around the world will over course rejoice as their secret stash of cannabis seeds can be fertilized in the open at last. But who will oppose the legalisation and why?

Drug Dealers

One of the main groups which benefit from the current legal position on cannabis around the world is drug dealers. Their business involves exploiting the difficulty people have in accessing illegal substances and reaping the rewards. If cannabis was legalised around the globe one of their major revenue streams would be cut off, as people would not have to take the risk of associating with people potentially involved in other more dangerous illegal activity. While drug dealers may not have rights, organised gangs have deep pockets and you can be assured that they will not want to lose cannabis as a source of income.

Some Doctors

Doctors in general seem to be split in their opinions as to whether the legalisation of cannabis would be a good thing or not. Some say that cannabis is a valid medicinal remedy for a range of conditions. It has been proven to help pain sufferers and people with diminished appetites to live a better life. And it is indeed legal to be sold and grown for medicinal use in many countries worldwide. However, the other half of the medical community sees cannabis as a source of addiction. They believe that legalising cannabis will result in an increase in people trying other more addictive and dangerous substances, as well as increasing the amount of tobacco smokers.

Activists

Anti-Cannabis activists have similar arguments to half of the doctors. As well as the physical health affects cannabis can bring, they also point out the mental health implications associated with smoking a lot of cannabis. Some studies have shown that excess use of cannabis grown from sunk seeds can lead to some people developing mental health disorders such as depression or schizophrenia. The counter argument tends to be that people who develop this condition had a tendency towards it before first smoking cannabis.

People can already purchase cannabis seeds legally online, so whatever way your government leans, you can expect that there will always be cannabis in your community.
