Better Business Bureau Florida

Better Business Bureaus are organizations that work professionally to

protect consumers against scams fraudulent and deceptive business

practices, including those used in advertising and sales. In this

article, you'll discover why you should also be careful with BBBs, or

else you will kick yourself for it, for a long time.

Better Business Bureaus carry out their jobs, by answering and

investigating the consumers' complaints. They were established in 1916

as an outgrowth of the early vigilance committees of a national

association later called the "american advertising federation". Their

agencies operate as systems of local offices, usually financed by the

local business community, and of national offices, financed and funded

by dues from companies of more than 100,000 members. Their membership is

composed of business interests in a community, such as manufacturers,

retailers, advertising agencies, and media representatives.

BBB are major influences on truth and accuracy in marketing and

advertising. Their parent organization, the Council of Better Business

Bureaus, Inc., works to help new industries develop standards for

ethical and responsible advertising and also provides information about

marketing / advertising regulations, recent court decisions and

administrative rulings and terms that affect advertising.

However, one should always be careful not to fall a victim of some of

the sites, that offer bogus Better Business Bureau services, to gain

trust, or give bogus BBB invoices when someone is pursuing some items.

Things like: cars, motorcycles, boats, jet skis and similar items that

are advertised on auction, classifieds sites and other Websites. Sites

where such items were allegedly listed, include: eBay, Craigslist,

Motorcycletrader.com and Carbuyer.com.

Recently, a consumer in Florida reported being told to use and pay for a

"BBB Auto Buyers Protection Program." This got him and everyone very

mad, especially because of the increase of such incidents in the state

of Florida recently.

The CBBB has reported the fraudulent activity to several law enforcement

authorities. They have also taken steps to prevent other consumers from

being victimized by demanding that the individuals involved, at mean

time, cease and desist from using the BBB name to pursue their extortion

programs and schemes."

Therefore, customers are advised to take note of the following:

-The BBB does not operate a "Better Business Bureau Insurance Service",

and also, it doesn't offer a "BBB Auto Buyers Protection Program"

-The BBB is not a ‘preferred insurance service provider’ for sites like

EBay or any other entity

-The BBB doesn't manage or has anything to do with financial

transactions for online merchants; and

-The BBB doesn't issue profiles or reports on individuals; BBBs report

on only businesses.

Some of the fraudulent e-mails attempt to lure and encourage buyers to

proceed with the "Better Business Bureau Managed Transaction" by

emphasizing that the BBB is an objective third party, protects the

online buyers and sellers, is highly effective in completing a

successful online transaction, deals with and resolves thousands of

cases each month from EBay and other marketplaces, has a Privacy Policy

designed to protect you and your info and treats your personal info with

the utmost care.

These are all, ofcourse, false claims that use the name of the BBB and

you should be careful not to be a victim of them.
