Finding storage for your boat is not like finding car storage. Indeed, there are a great many more options for your water vessel, and which one you chose depends on your unique needs. This type of space is also known as dry stack storage, because boats are put on racks high above the ground sometimes five or six racks high. Marina dry storage may be on the expensive side, but boaters typically pay by the foot and therefore only for the space needed.

Near marinas, trailered dry storage facilities can often be found. Owners have to launch the boat themselves, and put it back in the garage at the end of each voyage.

Another option is that of wet slip storage. This means that boats are in the water at all times, ready for action. This option is typically only used for larger vessels, which cannot be easily racked. Wet slips do provide some cover from the elements: they are usually covered to help keep the sun, snow and rain away from the boats. Those wet slips which do not provide cover for boats must be monitored by owners so that rainwater does not threaten the stability of the boat.

Because larger vessels typically require electrical and water refreshments because of their air conditioning systems and kitchen galleys, many wet slip storage spaces provide shore power servicing. These days most wet slip areas also offer sanitary pump out stations so that any sewage tanks can be cleaned out in a safe manner, using sanitary pump out stations.
