The Essential Elements of Marketing Postcards

by Brad Kartel

Postcard printing is considered a very simple process. However, not everyone really knows the real value that each element of a color postcard really has. If you know exactly the significance of each those elements in printing postcards though, you can gain the right insights to create more effective marketing postcards.

So let me explain to you in detail each of the essential content elements that a marketing postcard should have. Keep all these in mind as you create your color postcards. The more you remember and integrate these elements into your postcard printing, the better your marketing postcards should become.

1. Cover images – First of course we have the most obvious feature of the cover images. This is the key element that will attract and convince readers of your marketing message. It should be both beautiful as well as informative and you will have to compose it very carefully so that it does not become too much like a “sell out commercial”. It must connect to the reader emotionally and they must relate to it or identify with it. This is the key to drawing them into your postcard’s marketing message.

2. Postcard Titles – The next key element in marketing postcards are postcard titles. These are the short slogans that are emblazoned across your typical color postcard covers. The important thing to remember here is that these titles should “add on” to what the cover images are saying. It must reinforce the emotion being presented in the cover itself.

Moreover, it should also contain a few key words that will have a big impact on your readers. Depending on your target demographic, certain words such as “SALE”, “MONEY” or even “LOVE” and “LEARN” can immediately grab audiences and encourage them to read the whole custom postcard. By using the right titles, you can lock in those audiences and have them reading your marketing messages more readily.

3. Back details – The meat of your marketing messages in your marketing postcards are located “in the back details”. This is the most natural position for them of course since this is where the personal message appears in personal postcards. When composing this element, it is important for you to try to be as short as possible.

You will not want a big whole block of text contained in the back of your prints. A list or sectioned off text boxes are more appropriate and of course more readable for most people. With the right formatting and the most concise content as possible, your postcards should be more effective in marketing.

4. Response area – Of course if you want people to actually take action after reading your postcard marketing message, you should always have a response area. This is where you basically encourage your readers to respond to your color postcard prints and instruct them exactly on how to do it. This is the “business end” of your marketing postcard, and it should always be composed very carefully for maximum responses.

5. Contact information – Lastly, you should always of course insert in your contact information within your color postcard designs. By printing your website, email address, real address and telephone numbers in your postcards, you give your readers a way with which to talk to you and inquire about your marketing message. This also helps establish your postcards as a real and trustworthy print that came specifically from a legitimate business. It is best to put these in small fonts at the bottom of your back content so that people can notice it without confusing it with the main marketing message.

Good! Now you know exactly what you need to put into your color postcards as well as the exact ways and styles with which to do it. Good Luck!
