Where We Go To Think
Solitude is an important part of life. We all need it if only every now and then. It's time during which we can reflect and improve. To really cerebrate a person needs to find a suitable place to do that. For some that might be in a crowded stadium, for others it might be sitting alone, under a tree. Some ideal places to escape and think are:
In your room:
Bedrooms are a place where people do all the most intimate things - they love, they dress, they sleep, and they let out all of the feelings they had during their day. Everyone knows to knock a bedroom door and everyone tolerates when people say 'I'm okay, just need to be alone'.
In your books:
Books are one of the best escapes. The fictional characters and storyline allow you to think about something other than your own life, and because reading actually involves a lot of concentration, there is little time or room for distracting thoughts.
In your yoga practice:
Much like reading, yoga requires a lot of focus and therefore acts as a great escape from negative thoughts and stress. Moreover, the spiritual elements of yoga and the focus on forgiveness, peace, and acceptance give those who practice the chance to unwind and re-centre.
Under a tree:
Many of us have a favourite tree. A place we used to run to when we were children and needed to get away from it all. For some, it continues to serve that purpose. Trees can provide the comfort that we often need when feeling a bit lost in life.
On a walk:
There is something about walking that seems to open our minds. We walk with our eyes open and music in our ears. We are stimulated by the world and the people that surround us and with that comfort can process our thoughts and make sense of them all. Find room for them in our minds and hearts and accept them.
In your music:
For some music is the ultimate escape. It can transport listeners to another world. People find songs with lyrics they can identify to, beats that pump them up or melodies that calm them down. We listen to music in crowds or on our own. It doesn't matter, music is freedom and freedom can be experienced anywhere.
