Making the Most of your Next Family Vacation at an Ontario Resort

by Rick Breckbill

With the hectic schedules that many families face, making time for a family vacation getaway can seem like an impossible endeavor. A Statscan study released recently found that people are spending less time with their loved ones, largely because they are working more, watching television alone, and eating by themselves. It is estimated that on a typical work-day in 2005, workers spent 44 fewer minutes with their families than two decades earlier. Taken over a year, the decline is equivalent to five 40-hour work weeks. In addition, the Statscan study found that the length of the work day was the main factor influencing how much time people spent with their families. In 2005, the average work day was nearly 9 hours which is ½ hour longer than 20 years ago. Given these statistics, many are not surprised that family vacation travel is taking a back-seat to other demands that face us on a daily basis. However, family vacations are a vital part in keeping families together and happy. For this reason, the following paragraphs will explore ways to make the most of your next family vacation with key emphasis placed on Ontario resorts. The first thing to keep in mind when planning your next family vacation is the type of clientele that the resort caters to. Has it been in business for a long time? Does it allow children? Or is it specifically designed for adults? The second area of consideration when planning your Ontario family vacation is the available activities. Are activities organized? Or do you have the opportunity to take part in activities on your own time-frame? Are resort activities available on the premises? Or do you need to travel to get to the local activities? Some very popular activities that you may be interested in seeing if the resort you plan on booking your next family vacation with offers is: water-skiing, tubing, sailboating, canoeing, pedal boating, sail boating, outboard boating, jet-skiing, or mountain biking. Wooded hiking trails, tennis, fishing, shuffleboard, horseshoes, and other activities that are often enjoyed by people ranging in age. However, activities shouldn’t be limited to those that require physical exertion. Some Ontario resorts also offer deluxe waterfront accommodations, Jacuzzi’s, fireplaces, fine country dining, and heated outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool spa, sandy beaches, as well as excellent lake water swimming. Select Ontario, Canada resorts also provide fully supervised children’s activities and evening entertainment during the summer months. Choosing a resort with a variety of activities available, helps make the time that families spend together quality time that is filled with fond memories. The third thing to keep in mind when planning your next family vacation getaway in Ontario is whether the resort is all-inclusive. This can be very beneficial to families who have limited time to plan all the details of a vacation and prefer to make one phone call that will ensure everything related to the trip is planned. On the other hand, some people like the flexibility of being able to plan each aspect of the vacation making it unique to their tastes, preferences, and activity level. Because many families feel that the time they are able to commit to a vacation is limited, proximity to where you live may be a factor. Do you want something close that can be fit into a weekend getaway? Or do you prefer something farther away that can be used to get everyone out of the house and focused on the time together and family relationships that will be far enough away that people won’t be able to be thinking about work and other commitments? Do you want to be near a big city that is easy to fly into and out of? Or do you want something farther away that offers the thrill of having a road-trip?The key areas of consideration listed above will help you make the most of your next family vacation in Ontario. With the hectic lives that many of us experience, it is sometimes nice to be able to get back to what we remember as children and interact with each other more as a family by booking a family vacation that will be sure to create lasting memories.
