Fearsome Focus

The art of creating laser beam focus

by Rachelle Disbennett-Lee, PhD

There is nothing like focus to help you move forward. Although focusing is challenging in this multitasking world, focus is essential to successfully obtaining what you want. To understand the power of focus, think of a flashlight and a laser beam. A flashlight spreads its light over a wide area and then dissipates out into the ether. A laser beam streamlines its particles into one straight beam and can burn through metal. Fearsome Focus is the key to success and achieving what you say you want to achieve.

It may seem that you can get a lot done if you are multitasking and working on a lot of projects and tasks. This is an illusion. What ends up happening is you spread yourself too thin and you end up dabbling. I have learned that when I focus on one thing and make it my goal, I achieve it in less time and with less stress than trying to focus on dozens of things. Focus helps me put all my energy into one area and that is powerful. Having your focus divided on many things at once weakens your energy.

This may sound crazy, I mean who has the luxury of focusing on one thing. I understand that there are many things in life that need your attention; however you also need to make room for changing priorities. When I was working on my doctorate I still had to run a business and a household. To make sure that I didn't lose focus on completing my degree I scheduled time for school assignments and I didn't let anything get in the way of that.

Focus creates the opportunity to work on what you say is most important. What is most important often gets lost if your focus is spread among many goals and projects. Choosing to be focused will give you a sense of achievement and success. With focus you will build momentum and create results faster and be more effective. Narrow down what you want to focus on. Having one major goal at a time will help you achieve more and it will create a momentum that will help you accomplish the other goals as well.
