Outdoor Dining
The summer means a few very important things for our social lives - tans, beaches, and outdoor dining. London has only recently seen sun this summer but now that it has everyone is running to find any terrace they can to plant themselves and enjoy some nice food and rose in the sun.
There are many places and ways to enjoy an outdoor meal, including:
Seaside:
If you are lucky enough to find yourself next to the sea then it's likely that you'll be enjoying yourself no matter what you're doing or eating. Seaside meals can be anything from sitting on plastic chairs, eating ceviche on a little beach, to sitting on board your yacht eating duck salad, to sitting at a long wooden table outside of your beach home, with lots of friends and family, wine and homemade cooking.
Picnics:
Nice weather often inspires people to pack a picnic and bring it along to the park or beach with them. Tables and yachts are nice, but there is something very summery about laying out in the grass with friends and loved ones and enjoying a homemade packed lunch. The art of picnicking involves, having a good basket, some non-breakable dishes, and preparing foods that are easy to eat, light for summer and ranging in variety.
Garden:
If you have a garden then it is well worth your while to invest in some outdoor furniture that will encourage you to sit in it as much as possible. If you entertain a lot then you'll want to get a table big enough to accommodate your dinner parties, if you enjoy afternoon naps then you might opt for a comfortable couch with waterproof cushions. Or if you are often in the mood for a romantic swing, you might want to hang a nice one from a tree outside of your home.
Terrace:
For those of you who are stuck in the city for the summer and don't have a garden or time for a picnic you're likely to find yourselves looking for terraces a lot. Far from every restaurant has outdoor space and you probably won't want to return to the same places all the time, which means a whole season of exploring and discovering new places. Keep track of all your favourites and make sure to return to them.
Outdoor dining is a rare treat for those of us who live in London, so make sure to make the most of it while you can.
