Nowadays especially if you live in one of the main metropolitans such as San Francisco, New York, or Los Angeles you are often forced to live in a small home, a small room, or in general a small space. People live in small apartment homes because that is all they can afford in such high cost living cities. Some may be grateful for their place, but many will feel cramped and unhappy. There are also people who chose to live in smaller spaces because they’re simply tired of taking care of larger homes. For these people they just want the easiness and practicality of a smaller space. Even so, there are many methods to make your smaller home seem bigger. No matter what your reason for living in a small space is, you’ll need to be extremely good at planning out your space! There will be some compromises on what kind of decorations are viable, what to buy for organizing, and other lifestyle adjustments so that all your belongings will fit and you won’t feel cramped!
While there are ways to decorate to make spaces more cozy, and intimate, such as using soft and snuggly pieces, darker and warmer tones, even darker lighting. These methods can create that very private space. But most people will want to stretch out their little homes without literally doing so. There are many different methods to decorate to make your area look and feel bigger. Methods include, color, furniture arranging, and lighting.
Here are some tips: • Choose softer and lighter hues: soft and lighter hues versus dark and warm hues will have the opposite effect. Instead of creating a tighter and cozier effect. Light hues will make the area seem more airy and open. This may mean repainting your walls or adding a static cling window film to your windows, or simply window tinting. Or you can buy furniture or rugs in those colors. Some optimal colors include: white, light pink, lavender, blue, green, or beige. • Compliment your wall and furniture: if you have a beige wall, choose a bright furniture such as a green or blue. By contrasting colors you can easily break up the space and create that openness. Or choose a light color wall mural, preferably a scene that is open and vast such as the ocean or desert. • Choose similar color schemes: other than contrasting furniture and walls, your other decoration should be color complimenting. Try using cool colors or softer warmer colors on most surfaces such as your upholstery, wall finishes, drapery fabrics will give the room a more open look. This can even mean a complimenting canvas art piece. Open up while decorating! • Clear out your space and remove clutter: this is the most obvious of all choices. No space will feel open if you have stuff everywhere and there is no room to walk through. Find out ways to keep things out of view, build some organizers behind your doors and closets. Neatly put things away and out of sight. Once you clear way your room will automatically seem bigger. • Let some light in: any space will automatically look larger if it is well-lit. Let natural light in or put in more lights! Rid all your heavy curtains and open up the windows! Want privacy? Employ some window mural or window tint! This way you can beautifully create your windows, naturally let light in and also keep your privacy! There are many easy to apply window static cling films or tints.
