How Do I Make The Right Wedding Photographer Choice?

by Donna Fuller

Everybody knows that weddings are a special day for all involved but for the bride and groom it is the culmination of months of hard work and planning.

It can be the most maddening and frustrating time of your life, planning for that one special day to go off without a hitch, all of the variables to contend with and on the day the last thing you want to be doing is worrying about whether the moments of love and joy are being captured by a wedding photographer that knows what they are doing.

This article will lay out for you a few things that you may want to remember when looking for your perfect match in a wedding photographer.

1. How do I begin the process of choosing my wedding photographer? The first thing to do is get online. In this day and age if a wedding photographer does not have a classy and aesthetically pleasing website then they are not worth your time. If they have a work blog with ruminations on their art and work ethos than this is just bonus material, find out as much as you can about the photographers in your area through word of mouth and research and narrow down a list of candidates.

2. Then what? Look through the list of potentials and decide, "Does this photographer's style match my own idea of what the wedding should look like?" This is an important question as there are as many styles of wedding photography as there are weddings and finding the right fit for you is vitally important.

3. Awards are a good sign. While awards are not the be all and end all it is a very encouraging sign if your prospective photographer has been acknowledged by their peers. If everything else pans out then think of this one as a bonus stamp of approval from those in the know.

4. Sit down with the photographer. By now you will have whittled down your list of potential wedding photographers from scores to just a handful, maybe even a few. Now is the time to set up a meeting and get a real sense of your photographer. Make sure that it is the photographer that will be there on the day and not a representative of the studio. See if you develop a rapport and if so you will know what the right choice is for you and your special day.

So there you have it! Your four step guide to finding the right photographer for your special day. One more word of advice would be; enjoy yourself! Although organising a wedding can and will at times be stressful, try and remember that it is an experience that is once in a lifetime. Cherish the time and enjoy it.
