An Unexpected Turn of Events during Stag Weekends

by Sammy Jacks

It can all occur in a matter of an instant: one minute you are having a great time, and the next you are being arrested by the police. While that may not have happened to a lot of folks, there is still a good percentage of men who went away (particularly abroad) on a stag weekend and never managed to get back to Britain, mainly because of improper behaviour. Okay, that is probably a bit of an exaggeration, but it's true that the excesses of wild partying during stag weekends have caused numerous ‘casualties' in the last few years.

As the Telegraph website reports, there are numerous occasions on which stag goers should have thought more carefully before engaging in unusual activities. Take Steven Mullone, from Worchester, for example: apparently, the poor man did not know that skinny dipping into fountains was an offence in Bratislava, Slovakia and “was sentenced to two months of jail”, before being allowed to come back to the UK for his wedding (that apparently was not called off – true love is blind indeed!)

And while this awkward story had a happy ending, the same cannot be said for every crazy stag weekend participant. As the article goes on, in fact, it is revealed that “the body of a best man who went missing on a stag weekend to Belgium was found two weeks later washed up in a dock in Ostend in 2002”. It is not specified (or it was never established?) how the man’s body could end up in such a place in the first place, although we have it on good authority that alcohol abuse and proximity to water never make for a good combination.

Sounds scary? Stag weekends still remain the best type of holiday. If you decide to embark on such a wonderful journey, you will not be disappointed. You can have plenty of fun during your stag weekends with your best friends, as there are a lot of activities to choose from. Sports during the day, ideally unusual or even extreme ones you do not usually get the chance to practice every day, could be an ideal choice to spend the afternoon. At night, however, stag weekends mean one thing and one thing only, which is obviously going out for drinks and have a great time!

Everybody loves stag weekends, so the next time you get married (or re-married), do not forget to book your pre-wedding holiday!
