Broken Sunrise garage door spring repair

by dillondalto

There are two main types of garage doors - those that operate by extension springs, and those that operate by torsion springs. Most of the garage door repair falls into two categories namely broken springs and broken motors. Broken springs are difficult to replace for unprofessional people as it requires you to remove and replace high tension springs under significant compression.

Torsion springs generally requires some professional skills to replace them. Torsion springs have a lifetime of about 10-12 years. After that either you have to change them or you await an accident. When a torsion spring breaks, you may not notice at all. The only thing you got to hear is either a loud cracking sound or a pinging one. Another thing which you may notice is that your garage door opens and closes much more slowly than it before and if it is a single door with one spring, it may not open or close at all.

You should keep in mind that a garage door is a pretty simple machine- an electric motor connected to the chains that pull the door up with the help of springs. The same motor does the job of easing the door down. There are no other parts involved. So unless the tracks are broken, no repair should be more than $300. If power goes out, you can manually open and close the doors by pulling the cord. If the repair person asks more from you for the work done, you are entitled to lodge a complaint against him in their association.
