Plastic Surgeon to the Stars Dies in Texting Related Car Accident

by Jim Brown

It is not uncommon these days for drivers to be distracted from the road. Many of our most useful technologies can lead to an increase of fatal car crashes. Notably, Hills star Heidi Montag's plastic surgeon, Dr. Frank Ryan, crashed and died in his car while he was texting on his cell phone.

Texting while driving makes up a portion of the distracted driving problem. Fatal car accident statistics are fairly conclusive: more than 6,000 fatalities per year are caused by distracted drivers. Distracted driving deaths are all too often unnecessary. This includes talking on the phone, reading a book, or not paying attention to the road. Texting presents a unique problem, though, because of how widespread it has become.

What should we do to avoid distracted driving deaths?

1. Stop using the phone while driving! The mobile phone is a major cause of distracted driving accidents. If you have a call that is so important that you simply have to take, then it is important enough to pull over.

2. Make mp3 playlists. There is no need to be sorting through your iPod every 3 minutes because the song is over or you are sick of it. Either let your passengers be DJ or pre-make playlists for the road.

3. Don't fake it when your not paying attention. We have all seen it (or done it ourselves) where somebody puts their phone on the top of the steering wheel while they are texting so they can “watch” the road better. It doesn’t work. Nobody thinks you’re a better driver for it.

Like many car accidents, the person injured by a distracted driver doesn't have to be the one who wasn't paying attention. If you have been hurt in a car accident, you may want to speak with a car accident lawyer to fight the insurance company for you. Insurance companies will try their hardest to hold out but an injury lawyer can be there to fight the insurance companies for you.

How do you know how to choose a good car accident attorney? A key to finding a good injury attorney is looking for as much free information that they provide to educate you about your best options. Above all, don’t let the trauma of an accident get in the way of your just compensation.
