Not since the lovable Elmo has a new character garnered so much attention. For years generations of families have grown up on the likes of Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Mr. Hooper, Bert and Ernie and others. Now, the muppet family introduces a brand new girl muppet into the fold, to delight and educate children around the world.

Abby Cadabby is a 3 year old, pink laden young lady who has a nose for magic. At the age of 3, she has a big nose for wanting to discovery magic and using her magical wand. It will be interesting to see how she uses her magic when she meets her new friends on Sesame Street. Her favorite catch phrase is “That’s so magic!”. Over the years, Sesame Street characters have proved to be a huge hit with kids, and adults, of all ages. It will be interesting to see how well received Abby will be with this new generation as she spreads her magic everywhere. It makes one wonder whether we’ll see tickle me abby’s and Abby Cadabby lunchboxes as we saw with Elmo. If Abby proves to be a mainstay in the Sesame Street gang, prepare to stand in line tomorrow for the new Christmas toy for your kids, as Abby will definitely be making an impact on your wallet as much as she does on your kids entertainment.

Abby joins a cast of characters that doesn’t have a lot of female superstar power. There’s Zoe and Rosita that young girls have latched onto, but really that’s all there is. Abby will prove to be a powerful magnetizing force as she draws in female viewers everyday and will even empower little girls to get the same pink pony tails. The question will remain however, whether Abby’s catch phrase will catch fire in elementary schools everywhere. Will your little girl start saying “that’s so magic!” when she does something “magical”?

Sesame street is one of the longest running children’s entertainment and educational shows on television. Shown not just in America, but also in numerous different countries, Sesame Street has been a powerful, positive television show that has helped the emotional and relational development of children everywhere. From Big Bird teaching kids on how to play nicely with each other, to the Count who has helped children learn their numbers, each and every character has provided a mechanism to help children develop into the adults we see everyday. How do I know? Because I’m one of them.
