10 Commandments For A Good Church Website

by Tony Thompson

There are some things that your church website just cannot make it without. These things need to be included if you want your church website to perform its function well. This article is to help you learn what those things are so that your church website surpasses all of your goals for it quickly and easily, with minimal effort. Keep in mind that theses are just the bare bones of what you need to have on your church website, so you can have more, just make sure that you don't ever have less.

Here are the main things that your church website just cannot do without:

Thou Shalt Display Service Times You should always have a page dedicated to the service times each week. You should also put on this page any info that there is about a crèche or Sunday school for the kids. If there is a holiday coming up or there is any other reason why there would be special services be sure to have that put up on the page in time for people to find out about it. And when that date or those dates have passed take that info down. Your church website should always be up to date.

Thou Wilst Have A Page For Visitors This is the page for people who are not yet members of your church. These may be fellow Christians who are looking for a new church to attend each week or they could be non Christians who are interested in converting to your faith. This page needs to make the visitors feel comfortable and like they belong. It is the info that they find here that will make them want to join your church.

When deciding what to put on this page try and put yourself in the shoes of someone who has never before attended church. If that were you, what would you want to know? That is a great jumping off point.

Thou Wilst Do Everything To Make New Members Feel Comfortable And Safe If your church has an odd parking arrangement then fill them in on the best places to park their car when they come to a service. If your church has any special groups or activities each week then be sure to mention them here. This could be Sunday school or church groups or prayer meetings. You never know what will interest different people. Just try to put their minds at ease about what they are gong to see when they come to your church for the first time. Tell them what each sermon is like and so forth.

Thou Shalt Christianity page This is an important page for people who are not Christian but are becoming interested in the faith. These people need information to help them find God and that is what this page is for. It will help people to find out what they need to know and give them the confidence to seek out your church in person.

You may even want to put some real life stories of members on your page. Have a few of your members write out a short bit about why they comes back week after week and how the church makes them feel. This can go a long way towards making others want to visit your church this week. Just make sure that you have a diverse set of these stories. For example take one from a few different age groups. Perhaps a teen, a twenty something, and then some older single and/or married people. This way you will have stories that all people will be able to relate to no matter where they are in their lives.

Thou Shalt Have A Special Activity Page Some churches have bible study classes and if you do you can mention them here. Just make sure that you also have a special page dedicated to this topic. You can post a link on this page to the bible study page, that way everyone will be able to find it with ease.

You should also have special pages for special holiday occasions. If you always have a special party or parade during Easter or if you have an annual Christmas play for the community to take part in and attend, have a page for it. This is a great way to draw in local support from your community.

Thou Shalt Make Yourself Easy To Find The most important thing of all is having your address prominently displayed for all to see. It does not matter how great your website is if people do not know how to get to the church. They can want to go to a service but how can they if they cannot find you? Many church website have this at the top of each page along with the church logo. You should also seriously consider putting on a map that has the church, the street surrounding it and any other landmarks or buildings. This just makes finding you that much easier to do.

Thou Shalt Have An Easy To Find Contact Page This is one of the most important parts of your church website. This makes people feel like they are important to you and that you as a church as accessible. Put your phone number and email address and be sure to reply to any inquiries that you get right away. You may even want to add a contact form to this page so that people can get in touch with you this way.

Thou Wilst Appreciate The Value Of A Professional Web Design Choosing to build a church website is one of the smartest things that you will ever do for your congregation. It will help current members to stay informed and involved and allow new potential members to find you with ease. And when you choose a great church web design like Ministry Web Design you will always get exactly what you need when you need it.

Without a professional web design company working for you, you stand to end up with a terrible site filled with useless and outdated information all year long. If you want your site to be dynamic and informative then you need to get Ministry Web Design working for your church website today!

Thou Shalt Use Colors Wisely Colors are a big part of any website. You do not want to choose colors that are too bright and flashy. The colors need to be attractive and professional. They should also be warm and comforting not hard and cold. Take a look at a few different color schemes to see what you feel good about. This is essential to you making the right decisions for your church website.

Thou Wilst Check Out The Competition You may not want to think of the other churches in your area as competition but the bottom line is that they are. When new people move into the community and they are looking for a new church to go to you are going to have to compete with the other churches for their patronage. The better your church website is the higher your chances are of getting chosen for that family. Take a look at the other sites and learn from their mistakes. This is one of the best of all commandments for building an effective church website.
