by Joushua James

E-commerce involves the buying and selling of goods and services across the internet. E-commerce basically creates new avenues for business through the internet. It uses information technology to redesign existing value chains and business processes. If any individual, company or organization wants to promote their business across the net they need to first build an e-commerce site. An e-commerce site can be something very simple such a catalog page with a phone number. It could also be a state-of-the-art website with real time credit processing that allows the customer to purchase downloadable goods and receive them on the spot. Building an e-commerce site involves three basic steps. The first step is to create a customized shopping cart. A shopping cart is like the front of a store. You display your products or put forth information on the services offered by you. The prices of the products or services offered are displayed alongside. Customer’s visiting your store through your website will select the item they require. After the customer has completed their selection, the total amount to be paid for all selected items will be displayed. The customer will be provided the option to pay by credit card and after payment the transaction is complete. All provision for selecting the required products or services, calculating total to be paid and credit card options must be provided in the site. The second step is to approach a payment gateway service provider, so that you have the facility to accept credit card payments through your webstore. The gateway service provider may be a bank or authorized company who can accept and process credit card online on behalf of a merchant. They provide you with the necessary software that has to be integrated with your webstore to enable secure transactions. Ensure that the provider you choose is certified by Digital Certified Authorities like Verisign, Thwate etc so that you customers can safely transact through your store. The final step is to integrate payment gateway with your Website. This is where the software provided by the gateway service provider is integrated with your webstore to enable people visiting your website to carry online transaction safely and securely.
