Packing Tight For Charter Bus Service Trips

by Mark Etinger

So you are taking a charter bus service to get away and reunite with nature, relaxation, and good food. You changed it from a simple weekend trip to a full four or five days. Taking a bus is a great, cheap idea, especially if you don't own or don't want to rent a car. But luggage can be a pain. Sure there's storage under the bus but that isn't always reliable depending on how busy your bus is. The space above you or on your lap is limited as well. So how do you pack everything you need for a decent sized trip and still get it all on the charter bus?

Start with your larger piece of luggage first. The biggest you'll need is a typical rolling carry-on that you'd bring on a plane. You don't need that giant suitcase your mom gave you from the 70s. A 22 to 24 inch suitcase will be fine.

There are a few different ways you can go about packing clothing and saving space. There are such thing as air sealed plastic bags that you vacuum closed. This takes out all excess air, causing them and your clothes to shrink down to be easier to pack. The only issue here is that when packing to go back home, you'll need a way to vacuum seal them again.

The best way to pack clothes and save space is to roll them. Rolling them up with keep them from laying too bulky and make them easy to stack. Rolling also keeps clothing from getting too wrinkled while in your suitcase. The last thing you want to do is get off your long charter bus service, get to the hotel and have to iron.

Be sensible about what you need. If you plan on hiking on the trails, try to wear your hiking boots on your way up. The cute flats will fit better in the suitcase than bulky boots. Don't pack more tops or bottoms than you'll need, your trip isn't a fashion show. Jeans are great because they can be worn a few times before cleaning so stick to those.

All of your smaller items can be fit in a backpack you can bring with you on the charter bus service. This is where you want to keep your wallet, toiletries, prescriptions, even your socks and underwear if you can fit them. Always use all of the extra pockets on both your luggage and backpack to your advantage.

Remember, less is more. Enjoy your trip and enjoy the extra space on the charter bus service!
