Grants For The Arts, Available In Spite of The Economy
As the economy continues to deal with a large amount of financial tumult it would seem that publicly funded art in this country might take a nose dive. Oddly enough, a wide array of grants for the arts are still readily available. Decisions about monetary allotments are made well in advance of the time periods in which people in charge decide how to use them, so many of these grants are already prepared to be given to young artists with interesting, impactful and well-organized ideas for how to utilize these resources. Knowing how to procure such grants is easier than a lot of artists might expect.
Ideas considered for grants for the arts are generally viewed as being beneficial to the community. This means that while you may intend on creating something provocative, it should do so in a way that can engage without offending people's sensibility. This is not an impossible feat. Many fantastic works of art did not offend but have been able to engage the young and old alike garnering reactions that the artist and the spectators often do not expect. Making sure your piece is true to yourself, without being a sore spot for others, is sometimes easier said than done. But when you submit your plan to those responsible for grant writing, it might be a good move to ask for extra guidance in this area.
The other thing that makes a work worthy of grants is if it is something that can drive a community together and encourage the participation of other artists. This is why so much grant money goes towards free events. This can mean grants for music or dance events like concerts, but it can also include large free art demonstrations and theatrical events. These events are easy for those responsible for grants for the arts to fund, as they include the largest group of people. Putting on an event with a ton of moving parts can certainly be difficult, but when done right it can leave a lasting impression on a lot of people ensuring their continued participation in local arts events.
Of course, grants for the arts are also supposed to support your own vision. That is, after all what an artist has to offer, vision and perspective. At their best, arts projects and events can be a great way for a person to open themselves up to the world and open the world up to new perspectives. It is the true value of art to help bridge gaps in people's perception.
